Exploring at Paynes Creek Historic State Park

Hiking at Paynes Creek Historic State Park by The Peace River and Paynes Creek in central Florida. The park is located in a town known as Bowling Green and has a lot of nice trails and interesting history as well. Be sure to check out the visitor center at the park to learn about a lot of the history that occurred here. The trails lead you along the creek and river where you can take in the beautiful nature and wildlife along the way. It's a peaceful place that I enjoy exploring and I wanted to make this video highlighting some of the places along my adventure. Built in early 1849, the post was attacked and destroyed by Native Americans that summer. In late 1849, Fort Chokonikla was built nearby as the first outpost in a chain of forts established during tensions with Seminole Indians. The Seminoles never attacked the fort, but the Army was nearly defeated by mosquitoes. Today, nature enthusiasts and hikers can enjoy walking along trails through the park's natural areas. Paynes Creek and the adjoining Peace River provide opportunities for canoeing, kayaking and fishing. A museum at the visitor center depicts the lives of Florida's Seminole Indians and pioneers during the 19th century.

an excellent choice to explore, well done, brought some life to Florida's version of the frontier, complete w cowboys, Indians, soldiers and settlers. Got to get out there, study the represented scenes and tread that same ground. Get to know your local; Florida Trailblazer is here to help 👍

I have been hoping that your adventures would bring you to this area. I discovered Payne's Creek by accident while paddling the Peace River, and decided to divert up a side stream for a break. For several years, after the opening of the park, we visited there. It's an area rich in history. Thanks for the tour; it brings back many memories.

I can do that River almost 40 years ago. There are lots of gators and I hope they're still out there and I hope it stays the same

You should check out Duette preserve, if you haven't already. There are some restrictions, where on weekends ATV'S and 4-wheelers are allowed. Also on certain dates they open up the preserve for hunting. But it is accessible most of the time. Old Florida, at some of its finest. There are 3 different access points, I believe.
