Exploring Highlands Hammock State Park

Our trip around Florida landed us at Highlands Hammock State Park where we enjoyed the hiking trails, scenic bike loop, restricted-access tram tour, and Civilian Conservation Corps Museum.
This was Florida's first state park and the facilities are definitely showing their age, which we address in this video, but we still enjoyed our stay.

Glad to hear that you are on the mend! The park looks great; and, the more you talk about and show the Florida flora and fauna, the more I think I would like to visit the state. Great job, as always!!!

Yep, we're both doing better health-wise, and it's nice to have my voice back! And you're right about visiting Florida - it has a lot of neat places to explore and experience. Thanks, Karen! -Ari

I’ve added this park to my list. I grew up camping in State & National Parks all across the country, and we sometimes stayed in those CCC cabins available at some parks. I’ve always loved that older rustic style of wood construction with the stone fireplaces! Thanks for the detailed review! 💙🌴🐊🏕🏝🌅

I need to check this park out at some point. I've been to many central Florida parks but not this one yet. I passed this on my bike tour to South Florida last year but didn't stay. Thanks for the review. 👍

You're welcome, thanks for watching and commenting! As we mentioned, the campground is showing its age but the staff seems to be doing what it can to keep up. And the park itself has some great things to check out. Safe travels to you!

I like the old style buildings. If you update them too much it kind of takes away that old school ambiance that some folks like me like. That said, it really doesn't take too much to put in new shower heads and controls. Keep the good stuff coming guys. When you get home let me know if you would like to take a look at my rig, it's in Holt.

We absolutely agree about keeping the old buildings, especially anything built by the CCC. But some maintenance dollars could go a long way and, as you said, some new fixtures are easy and can do wonders for the operation and overall feel of a bathroom. We'll be in touch when we return to Michigan - looking forward to seeing your rig!

I bet Jessi couldn't wait to leave the bright lights of Broadway (NYC) to get back to Ari and the gator filled swamps of Florida...🐊

Well, she did manage to fit in seeing Wicked on Broadway, which was an awesome treat. But she is much more interested in hiking through nature than fighting her way through crowded city streets. Thanks for watching! -Ari
