Thanks to Ross, Carole, Cele, Eddie, Lori, Meg, Shelby, Susan and Terri for your continued support.
In 1963, demolition began on the Provincial Hospital and soon after construction began on a new mental health facility.
During the 1960s to late 1990s the hospital was still a regional resource and people came from all over Southwestern Ontario to receive care. It was also during this time that many changes to mental health care were developed, including new therapies, programs and advancement
To say this abandoned Insane Asylum was creepy would be a huge understatement. Every floor, every wing is pitch black, the windows are all boarded up and the only light comes from small air vents that help circulate fresh air throughout.
The tales of the types of procedures performed in this Insane Asylum are shocking, and knowing that this building was in use during some of the darkest days of Psychiatric care just makes your mind wander - and wonder what went on in these halls and rooms.
At the time, the main Physician and Superintendent of this insane asylum thought that he could cure female patients of their mental issues through gynaecological surgery.
It was a widely accepted notion that disease in one part of the body was capable of producing symptoms in a distant region, I’ll let you all figure out the rest!

Many layered production : as a lover of architecture it was a pleasure to watch such informative (and well lit), camerawork, it was unhurried with lovely overlays that gave extra context. The voiceover was calm and interesting and the soundtrack did not fall into the trap of being over dramatic. I'm going to be watching a lot more. Cheers for the great work.

Wow, that was very interesting and so sad at the same time. My heart breaks for the people that had to go there and for the women that I feel had very unnecessary surgeries performed on them. Thanks so much for sharing this piece of history. Just some concerned advice, please stop going to these creepy places alone. 💙 Watching from Virginia, USA ✌️

Wow incredible place. Watching from LV Nevada. I was exploring on the web for old hospitals, as silly as it sounds I want to do a Minecraft build and was using actual pictures as inspiration. Came across your site and decided to watch your video. I got sucked in and started watching more of your vids. Anyways thanks for helping me draw some inspiration for my silly build. Be safe :)

This place was investigated by Moe Sargi and Omar Gosh not so long ago. It's cool to see other people's views and opinions about a place. Wouldn't have gone alone though, if anything for safety as those floors look sketchy as hell. Thanks for sharing.

Saw the place in the 80s and the vibe was terrifying. Always been sensitive to weird events in a place. Building reminds me of the one in Hamilton Ontario. That place makes me vomit. I can't go near it....sucks I know being sensitive. Great video Brother. Peace and God may bless your travels....

Wow so cool I lived beside this place while I was in school in 2018, had no idea what is was until the military came and started using it for training. There were helicopters, bombs, gunshots and drones everywhere. We couldn’t get near the place without a guard or police stopping us so I’m glad I finally got to see the inside!

Watching your exploration from Nashville, Tennessee. I am glad that mental health treatment has evolved since those asylums brutality and gynecological operations and shock treatments on people who didn't deserve such deranged inhumane punishment. After that it is likely those women and men were likely never able to have a stable healthy outcome. It is sad to think about what their lives were like there. Thanks for your video and history of that building.
