Explore Hoi An’s Rich History & Culinary Delights 🇻🇳 Vietnam

Hoi An is a beautiful city with unique cuisine and a very interesting history as an early trading town. The old town or Ancient City is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It can be crowded in the evening, but it's well worth a visit just to see the lanterns on the rivers. If you visit the city, you definitely need to try the Cao Lầu, a local dish that is served almost exclusively in Hoi An.

Haha! It's on its last leg. I (Chris) have had it for years and it's getting so worn out, but it's really quite comfortable so I will probably keep longer than I should 😂😂 Thanks for watching! Hoi An was a really fun city.

Nice video! When I was there 7 years ago, we could float small paper lanterns (lit by candles) directly onto the river. We are supposed to make a wish at the same time :). Seems that there is no such practice anymore ? Hoi An in the evening is one of my most memorable travel experiences :)

Hi Mike! Thanks for watching and commenting. We are glad you enjoyed the video. There were small paper lanterns that you could buy and place in the water so you can still make that wish if you ever return to visit Hoi An. 😃 All of the boat traffic tends to push the paper lanterns to the side of the river so they are not as visible when it’s busy. We would have loved to visit Hoi An 7 years ago. It was quite nice during the day, but so crowded in the evening. I’m sure it was spectacular when you visited. What really excited us was all of the history in the area. In one of our upcoming videos that we are currently editing on, we visit My Son Sanctuary which is an amazing temple complex in the jungle built by the Cham people. It’s just outside Hoi An and really worth a visit if you decide to visit this area in the future.

@@388_days Haha, at that time, my wife felt that those paper lanterns were too tourist gimmicky :) Up to this day, I am still not sure whether my wish came completely true or not :). Maybe 50% only, haha. Need to go there again to float another paper lantern to get the other 50% to come true !
