Explore - Abandoned High School

Ойын-сауық

UPDATE JUNE 2017: The structure is currently under demolition.
An absolutely massive high school complete with gyms, classrooms and an auditorium. 90's secondary school architecture has always been interesting to me and exploring this brought out a sense of nostalgia. Enjoy. I want to remind everyone that I do not encourage anyone to do this and any comments revealing or asking for the name of this location will be deleted.

A lot of the science equipment is still like brand new. New high tech high schools use that stuff still, and the condition of the equipment was like brand fucking new...

When a building is abandoned and sold they usually sell most of the contents with it. Then the firm doing the demolition will usually consider the contents as part of their bid. So, in the end, all of that equipment will be sold a couple of times before finally being dealt with (sold or destroyed) by the demolition firm.

Expensive at one time maybe but that's all stuff that loses value very fast, especially since its primarily used by high school students who sometimes do not care about the equipment they use. At the very most it's stuff you can strip for scrap metal, so that's all the value it really has left, which isn't much since you'll probably use more money on gas lugging the stuff from the school to the dump.

That t-shirt printer could go for at least $1,000 with all its parts. I'm just saying this because my school had to reuse equipment from the 80s, we only had updated books and barely got sub-par Macs when I left. It just ruffled my feathers a bit when I saw perfectly fine equipment just lying there.

The school was moved 3 miles away. I don't get leaving useful stuff like microscopes and books behind. It looks more like they had to bug out. That makes no sense, It seems like a waste of money. Much of that stuff could have been donated to poor schools if they didn't want it. What a waste.

I know, I live in a poor country where public schools are shit and underfunded and kids would LOVE to have those abandoned equiptment in their schools! Must be something henious about the ground they built on that they had to pack up so quickly though.

  • @ChristopherSmith221

Because they didn't want to interrupt the school year in any way with the move, they decided to move during christmas break. So since they only had 2 weeks to move some things were left behind. As far as I know they basically told the teachers whatever you want you need to take other wise it will be left behind.

  • @stanmcserr8576

I agree that it's wasteful. I don't know the reasons why they left some of the stuff they did. Honestly I think it was probably just the fact that no one really cared about it. Everyone that worked there was so stressed about the move to the new school they were just happy when it was over.

but it's outdated... (blanked out info on the school, not sure if the school's still up) "Some who viewed the video have posted critical comments online, questioning why the ________ Catholic District School Board wouldn't have salvaged some of the abandoned items to save money. Board chair ___ _____ said normally anything useful is transferred to new facilities or posted on an internal site for use at other schools. After that, bidders would have a chance to purchase items. But in [this school]'s case, the board would have been required to leave behind fixed items, such as auditorium chairs, and may have opted to leave outdated textbooks or broken desks" they did what they could. besides - the recent aluminium tax coming from Donald Tump will hit that city much harder than a few thousand dollars worth of outdated equipment (it's an industrial city, a huge portion of the people living there will lose jobs with this new aluminium tax)

The equipment in the school was passed around to other schools in the area. So seeing good buildings with their equipment left in there just makes me sad. Seeing vandalism in these school buildings also make me sad as if to mock it's legacy.

This Catholic High School was not old. But due to under population and a rapidly growing area 3km away the school needed to be moved. They had armys of buses driving down the mountain for the students to attend. This school also had many issues that needed to be fixed. Lighting and water damage was just the start. If I stand corrected within the last 8 years they had to close down a wing to due fungus. I was supposed to go to this school because I was a feeder school but I went to a different high school due to the fact that it was closer. I have seen this building at its greatest and alot of great shows have happened in that theatre. I can still hear the famous chants and the amazing choir with some of my friends and family. My father was the working electrician at both locations. Some students thought it was funny so they actually set fire to the new building. I wish they didn't leave this school such a mess and donated/reused some stuff.

The fact that it's freezing cold outside the building somehow makes it feel even more abandoned. Also, the part where you guys went back stage and the music started playing gave me goosebumps. The scavenger in me was going crazy as you looked through all those classes and rooms. I was all like "Could I use this? Would I take that?" Or, "I wonder if I could learn something useful from one of the few books left here..." I also can't help but think of all the kids who went here in the past. Making their own memories and friends. Who were THEIR favorite teachers? What were THEIR names?...What were their stories? The yearbook alone was probably worth taking if nothing else.

I dont understand why schools dont donate their items to other schools when they close. It seems like such a waste. A lot of schools can't afford things like textbooks or microscopes. I think they should make it a law that, if anything is usable, it must be sold or donated before officially closing.

  • @nycpizzaz6453

Was thinking the same thing, those microscopes are expensive [and amazed they were still there] would have made a good donation to a poorer school as well as shelves, desks, seating, lights and so much more. So much waste in this country its kinda gross.

Because it takes staff resources to collect and inventory the remaining items, confirm whether it still works, find places to donate or sell it to, then coordinate the transfer of property, etc. The school probably determined it wasn't a productive use of their employees' time. You're also assuming the equipment was functional and the books were up to date. It could be just glorified junk.

The only reason I can think is because the building is still insured (and iirc insurers differentiate between vacant and unoccupied buildings). If the furnishings are still intact, then it can be covered as "unoccupied" rather than "vacant".

Obviously modernized by now of course, although only in recent years. It would be strange for ME to be in a building that has little to no history whatsoever. Although for my first elementary school equivalent was new ish I think.

Watching this video kinda breaks my heart. Like honestly, that is a gigantic school that appears to offer more/more open space of activities for students than many schools. Maybe it's because my high school was a smaller campus and couldn't offer much/focused too much on sports, but it just hurts my heart that a massive school like this would be abandoned just so the school can move it a new facility. I get that student population was a bit down because of the area but Jesus Christ. I wish I could've gone to that school. Based on what I've seen in this video, it seems like the arts departments were lit.

We had trash cans sitting around some of the hallways that were a bit worse to catch water. We still attended classes while people fixed it. Never smelled bad tho. My favorite is when I came to school after summer to see the gym floor totally destroyed bc of water damage. I never knew a floor could warp so badly bruh.

Dude you could make a found-video movie, where the school was abandoned but secretly the reason it was abandoned was VAMPIRES!

It's amazing just what 3 years can do to a building, our middle school closed 3 years ago also so now I'm wondering if it looks similar to that school

I find it interesting that a newer school like this was designed in a way that made it difficult to renovate/improve on as years went on. I go to a high school that will be 100 years old in 2026 and it is still going strong even with some air conditioning issues that keep needing to be repaired and replaced as years go on. Wouldn't it have been easier to remodel parts of this school over time? Great video though, you earned a sub 2 years later
