Actually, it follows exactly the same pattern of fingerings along the neck. It's just that the "root" note would not be the pinky. It would be the first finger of that first shape.

I can't help thinking you mean 'second finger' rather than middle finger?

Not all beginner guitarists know 1-4 finger numbering yet. But I'll bet most everyone knows which finger the "middle" one is ;) I'd even put some money on it.
