It's such an underrated duo, I'd love to see sonic get himself in a pinch and Tails + Knux working together to save him, really showing us what they can do

Probably should note that it was Knuckles talking to Sonic.

A dynamic they could go with is Knuckle's race are religious mystics and Tails is a man of science. Knuckles views the chaos emeralds and master emerald as sacred symbols of power that no one person should use and him being the last of his kind is proof of that. Tails however looks at them with a more scientific perspective and perhaps would see them as a scientific mystery to solve.

That's a great point. It's two opposing sides, but both are technically true. I like to think Tails is not really knowledgeable on ancient languages and customs of their world, given he appears to have grown up in a more modern environment than Sonic and Knuckles (at least Sonic may have learnt stuff from Longclaw), and Knuckles teaches him some of it

That moment of Knuckles lifting up Tails saying, "Come on, Fox; Our dessert adventure awaits" does SO MUCH despite it being so short. There's so much I love about that short visual!

Depends on the continuity. But overall, I think knuckles has a better opinion of tails over sonic, and that they'd be closer if sonic was out of the picture for some reason. I do see their relationship as brotherly, just in a different way. Knuckles is more of a 'tough love' kind of person, whereas sonic is more 'buddy-buddy'. I'm hoping to see more interactions between these two in the new series/movies.

I agree with Knuckles having a better opinion of Tails than Sonic I can see that. He prob just trusts Tails more. Sonic does his own thing. He doesn't listen to anyone and does what he wants. That could make him unpredictable? Idk if thats the right word but i think u get what I mean. Tails is Tails. Hes a good guy and doesnt do anything wrong. Knuckles knows what hes getting when interacting with Tails.

Sonic The Comic actually showed us an example of that with a Tails story set in the Nameless Zone and Sonic has no part in it.

I think the duo of Tails and Knuckles should be acknowledged in my opinion because it would be awesome to see more of Tails and Knuckles teaming up together.

I like the fact in sonic heroes knuckles acts like an older brother by scaring him in one scene

I really liked the moments they shared in the movie, especially when Knuckles picked him up in the baseball scene!

It's interesting cuz even though it doesn't happen in games it's mostly in other media we see the dynamics of their friendship. Tails usually relies on Knuckle's expertise on subjects that pertain to ancient artifacts or ruins since Knuckles is a skilled treasure hunter. Like it's definitely a brotherly relationship as Sonic and Knuckles are in a sense his big bros. Knuckles is more likely to lean on Tails if he needs something since Tails usually doesn't rub him the wrong way and they get along pretty well. Like I think it would be out of character for Knuckles to ever pick a fight with Tails. In the Archie comics Knuckles even showed Tails a few moves on how to fight.

I love the duo of knuckles and tails because they can make a pretty good team! I would love to see more of them working together in the future sonic games! I would love for them to show how good of a team they can be! :)

The closest I can think of is Sonic Advanced 3. Where on character is a partner to the playable character.

I would love to have a Sonic game where only Tails and Knuckles are the main characters and we get to see how they work together without Sonic around. I would love to see that dynamic between them. That's why I'm hoping that the movies further explore Tails and Knuckles' dynamic in the near future.

I find it kinda weird how every Heroes team has a few interactions between each of the members to one another except Team Sonic. Team Rose's interactions mostly involve Amy and Cream but there are times where they both talk with Big, Team Chaotix are always talking to one another and I feel like Team Dark needs no explanation especially in Heroes. That just leaves Team Sonic with Tails and Knux which you wouldn't expect. It was definitely great to see some more interaction between Tails and Knuckles in the movie and I do definitely agree with your thoughts on game Tails and Knuckles' relationship.

What I liked about Sonic movie 2 is that we actually get to see Tails directly talk and interact with each other

Sonic is the glue to their trio and I believe Tails and knuckles have a good relationship with each other. I believe that Tails and knuckles are the embodiment of brains and brawn. I’d like to believe that they would be a great duo if given the opportunity give or take knuckles being gullible and Tails being smart.

I’d say these three share a bit of a brotherhood, tails is the youngest, and sonic and knuckles are the older two. Knuckles is the one who’s a bit introverted and disconnected, as he has his emerald duties and (like you said) will fight them if it comes down to it. If you take what I said here and watch the movie carefully, you can see what I mean.

In the OVA movie I say Tails and Knuckles had some time together while Sonic was out of the picture for a while after the first round with Metal, Tails and Knuckles work together to find him and even in the final battle while Sonic was fighting Metal they worked together to save the world I say they can be good friends with Sonic not around

I believe in the manual of sonic heroes it states something along the lines of tails and knuckles being about as tight knit as sonic and tails

The best team for exploration, tails’s flight and knuckles’s glide and climb makes a pretty good combo

Knuckles is like a big brother to Tails.

Knuckles seems to me the kind of friend/older brother who would take Tails to the gym to gain some muscle mass, and even though Tails is not the physical strength guy and would be surprised by the invitation, he would go along with Knuckles because he knew he was in good intention because he cares about his friend/younger brother.

We need more interaction between Tails and Knuckles!

Fell like knuckles is... a big brother, like you said, but like a big BIG brother, like: Tails: younger brother Sonic: middle brother Knuckles: older brother Kind of how i think of team sonic

I'm so glad the Sonic movie 2 gave Tails and Knux those brotherly interactions. I just wish the games remembered they aren't just "mutual" friends of Sonic, I can't remember the last time Tails and Knux just talked to each other without Sonic around in the games.

I’ve always wanted to play a Sonic game from beginning to end as JUST Knuckles & Tails, no Sonic. The closest I got to that, I think, was Mania’s encore mode. I really want a game, or a game mode, where Sonic is captured by Eggman & Knuckles & Tails work together to save him. It’d be so fun to play, and would give us some great interactions that help flesh out their dynamic!

For some reason, for the longest time i thought it was strange for Knuckles and Tails to interact? For absolutely no reason, it seems logical that they would, but like, since SEGA over the years handles these things poorly now, it seems strange, but, from a different perspective, it absolutely fits, and makes sense for them to be close aswell.

Yeah I too felt it was strange awhile back even tho they're part of the same TEAM but after watching the Sonic Movie 2, it makes so much sense now.

Knuckles is not dumb ..he was whole his life isolated alone on angel island away from human world...he doesn't know a lot of things and he needed time to catch some stuff and he is honest and not spoiled ,btw in Sonic X there is a lot of scenes where Knuckles is smart and right , but nobody talks or cares about it

I think Sonic also likes to tease Knux to get a rise out of him, 'cause he knows he's easily provoked. This seems to happen regardless of the situation, who's right/wrong, etc.. You could say it's more of a personality thing, than an intellect thing. That's how I like to see it anyhow 😊

I think Tails and Knuckles have a pretty fun dynamic and interactions in the Sonic Boom cartoons. Th examples I remember is that episode where Tails gets love advice from people, and Knuckles just tells him to be a strong dudebro. And another episode where Knuckles wins a lamp but doesn't have anywhere to put it, so Tails lets Knuckles sleep in his workshop along with the lamp

I REALLY wanted someone to talk about this. Tails and Knuckles don't really have a duo but i want them to be cuz they can potentially be a great duo. I thought about this idea when i saw some of the fan animation series like SMBZ, Sonic: Dark form etc. Where mostly Sonic and Shadow are the ones to form the duo( and they DO make a good duo, don't get me wrong) So i felt like Tails and Knuckles should form their own duo as they most of the time form a trio alongside Sonic. But since Sonic is put with Shadow nowdays, A tails and knuckles duo would be awesome.

I really like some of the scenes Tails and Knuckles have during the Meterex Saga in Sonic X.

As a long time Sonic fan, the first time I felt like Knuckles and Tails had a connection was actually in the Sonic 2 movie. Up until then, yeah I always saw them together, but I never really thought about their friendship. I'm sure in the shows they both appear in, they interact more, but in the main games, I can't really recall much interactions between them, and I could never picture Tails and Knuckles hanging out together, even though they live fairly close (if Adventure is anything to go by)

People describe Tails as Sonic's "little brother" and Knuckles as Sonics Rival/Friend. So in my head, Tails is just Knuckles friends little brother. In my experience that relationship in the real world tends to be mild at best, and typically closer to an annoyance.

I like seeing tails and knuckles on thier own and I don't think sonic battle really matters in this conversation but through thier respective stories they interact with each other tails near the end of his story and knuckles is most of time he visits tails lab

I really liked that baseball scene at the end of the second movie. It felt just like 3 brothers hanging out on a saturday.

Such a good vid! I personally always saw Knuckles as like the eldest brother of the trio with Sonic as the middle child and Tails as the littlest. To Knuckles, Sonic is that best friend/brother who pisses you off SO MUCH sometimes but you'd die for em in a heartbeat, and Tails is the one you love to play and mess with, but the moment someone ELSE messes with them its Instant Kill time. Tldr; i love these guys and this video rocks 👍🏾💖👏🏽

Knuckles and Tails' friendship is definitely something I'd love to see elaborated on in the games/sonic media. In my opinion, we don't see enough of these two interacting, especially just one-on-one. There is a lot of potential there.

ive always seen sonic and tails as “best friends that are so close they consider themselves brothers” where for knuckles and tails as “real siblings that fight and tease each other but still have a lot of trust for themselves” ofc tails and knuckles aren’t brothers but that’s just how it seems especially comparing my siblings to them sjdhjdd

This isn't related, but I have a video idea. You should do a synopsis on why Sonic 06 is relisted on the Xbox Marketplace. I feel like that would be an interesting video because it's mysterious that Sonic 06 is randomly back on the Xbox Marketplace.

Suddenly getting the urge to play Sonic Mania or Advance 3 as Tails & Knuckles

For some reason, i feel knuckles and tails are just brothers to me and i like it.

Here's how I picture their relationship. If Sonic's the cool big brother to Tails, Knuckles is the one who loves his little brother, but tends to be rough on him from time to time. But Tails will always have a comeback. Some examples. Tails will be explaining something by using technobabble, and Knuckles will be like "Will ya shut up and get to the point". And would often call Tails names like nerd twerp and pixel brain from time to time. Tails on the other hand would often insult Knuckle's intelligence (no, Knuckles is not stupid) and would get a rise out of him. Often times having Knuckles chase him, but out of reach since Tails and fly and Knuckles can only glide. Knuckles would sometimes break some of Tail's inventions my accident curiosity and frustration, leaving an annoyed Tails screaming "Knuckles I needed that!". Tails would also try to act weak to get Knuckles in trouble, especially around Rouge. Yet despite all that, the two tend to care and get along very well with each other. On the same day Knuckles threatens to punch Tail's head off, he would risk his life to save him and keep him out of trouble. And despite Tails having fun teasing Knuckles and making him feel dumb, Tails looks up to Knuckles just like he does with Sonic. And would always treat Knuckles with respect and thanks. Sonic is the glue that holds them together. And when Knuckles and Tails are not fighting Robotnik or with each other, they can get along every well. They would hang out, have fun, and can be true genuine friends.... even though they rough house with each other like most brothers do. Boys will be boys.

They’re the Sega equivalent of the Kirk, Spock and McCoy trinity. The Id, Ego and Superego. Difference here is that who is the Kirk, Spock and McCoy in the trio’s dynamic changes depending on the occasion. All three could be any of the above. Sonic and Knuckles needs Tails as a tiebreaker. Tails and Knuckles needs Sonic to lead them forwards. Sonic and Tails needs Knuckles to knock some sense into them.

Other than Sonic X did Tails and Shadow ever talk to each other?

Sega nearly never makes interact with no one besides sonic I think characters should be able to duo up like knuckles tails and stuff like that so it's not just sonic but other characters team up

I gotta say that this is something I always thought Boom series and Sonic Movie 2 got better than any of the games, where it mostly was Sonic + Tails or Sonic + Knuckles, making those versions of Team Sonic my favourites. And that issue of 2/3 characters of a three-character-pack not being seen a lot together without the other 1/3 always throws down the trio dynamic for me, specially since I love trio dynamics

In the end, they're just a duo we want to see more of. Perhaps we'll get some of that dynamic in the Sonic Frontiers, but who knows

They really could do with a lot more focus on the trio instead of just Sonic and Tails, and sometimes Shadow just because the developer loves him and seems to have it in for Knuckles.

The first time i saw these two interact with each other was when i bought Sonic 2 after ten years of only having Sonic and Knuckles for the Sega Genesis. And watching Tails and Knuckles flying both on Sky Chase was amazing!

you, like most others, got Knuckles wrong, Knuckles was written in the first games, to have above average intelligence, but because he raised himself basically he doesn't know the meaning of lying, or how corrupt the world is, so he believes Eggman, even in the Sonic movie 2, one of the deleted scenes has Knuckles asking Eggman what lying is, cause he doesn't know, Knuckles is just too trusting, and he doesn't see Sonic as a rival anymore, he hasn't since SA2, in Sonic Heroes you can hear them talking to each other like brothers, giving each other crap, but they both know it's all in good fun, cause that's what brothers do, Knuckles did fight Sonic or Tails in SA, but that's because he thought they had a Master Emerald piece, you know, the thing that keeps Knuckles' home from crashing into the water killing a bunch of people, and is one his only possession other than his shoes, also he made a promise to guard the ultimate power Emerald, so yeah, Knuckles would fight anyone for it.

Sonic always brings them together!👍👍👍

Sonic the Comic shows us a Tails and Knuckles dynamic, the latter getting along with Tails because of the former’s more humble and nicer than Sonic is in that comic. Willing to help out Tails on occasions.

Knuckles and Tails is an overlooked team I believe better than Sonic and Tails imo

I love when they interact and I was happy to see them doing so in the second movie. Because the amount of times I can remember them doing so are fewer than their should be.

Nice vid! So, 2 things: - I recently had a pretty decent conversation about this recently and came to very similar conclusions regarding their relationship. I want to see more, because aside from small moments like the one in Heroes with the "teasing older brother, mild younger brother" relationship; they seem almost like... well that episode of Seinfeld where George and Elaine realize they only relate to each other _through_ Jerry. And while that's fine, and a decent enough interpretation of their relationship (and one that I believe seems to be the case) I *do* wish their friendship would get more development, since they're a fun pair when they do get those rare moments and it seems like _such a waste_ for 2 members of "Team Sonic" to just be "mutual friends with Sonic, but not really with each other" - The 2nd is more of a nitpick than anything, which is: Knuckles still barely knew Sonic and Tails in Adventure 1. Even if Triple Trouble is canon, Knuckles has only seen these guys twice for a short period of time. And even if significant time passed between 3K/TT and SA1; there's no indication that Knuckles had seen them since, since it's *heavily* implied he's never left Angel Island, and I doubt Sonic and Tails decided to make regular visits lol Overall, great video! I really enjoyed it and came to a lot of similar conclusions myself. I'm curious to see if the nickname will stick for Sonic 3, if it won't stick, or if he'll come up with a completely new nickname for the fox

I agree, I think that if those two interacted more in the games, they would be way less rivals, and more of good friends. I’d think that Tails would have a more genuine and trusting relationship with Knuckles than Sonic would have with Knuckles solely because Tails doesn’t tease much, and can, in a way, understand Knuckles’ loneliness and respect for ancient architecture or writing. To add on to that, while Tails and Knuckles may look like the classic “brains and the brawn” duo, when they interact, I feel like it’s them putting aside their differences and trusting and respecting each other. Tails can understand Knuckles and respect his personal space as well as the master emerald, while Knuckles can be there for Tails and make sure he’s alright when he needs it. Tails and Knuckles could also work together to solve ancient mythic stuff if they wanted to, and I personally feel they would be much more friends than rivals.

If I remember correctly, in Sonic Chronicles, Knuckles went to Tails for help with security for the Master Emerald. Meaning he has trust and confidence in his skills. In Sonic Heroes, Tails and Knuckles were already together before meeting up with Sonic at the start of their story. While they most likely ran into each other, it's possible they were already hanging out, or one of them went to get the other before meeting up with Sonic. So they do keep each other in mind.

Let's not forget that in Sonic Heroes, Tailes went for Knuckles first and the he went for Sonic.

I see Team Sonic like the older brother (Knuckles), the middle brother (Sonic) and the little brother (Tails), but to Knuckles ans Tails exclusively, i see more like Tails trusts Knuckles, and Knuckles trusts Tails, Knuckles is working out? Tails is helping him (I can see Knuckles doing push-ups and Tails on his back with a stopwatch), Tails needs help with heavy things and translate ancient texts? Knuckles helps Tails, Tails also would tell Knuckles to take a break from guarding the master emerald, and that he would guard instead

They talk in sonic frontiers pretty well

can we just imagine sonic heroes but with Fire Emblem’s support system (platonic) and or Persona’s confidant system we would have potential moments where Team Sonic runs through a stage to get to Eggman as fast as possible, hitting an obstacle along the way that they have to think carefully of how to deal with it or Team Rose relaxing for one day while Big is fishing and they’re just making food would be super cool

My favorite knuckles and tails moment is the intro to team hero’s in sonic hero’s, just the 2 bros flying in the ship knuckles casually laying back until they spot sonic running in the distance, after handing the letter to sonic and letting him read about the new big bad plan, knuckles looks to sonic and and says “don’t worry We got this” again showing his confidence and trust in tails, remember originally knuckles was a very “ I do it alone” type of guy now he’s willing to take on an adventure with him and tails alone, though ofc sonic says think I’ll miss this and they all head off to face the adventure

One is too smart but not brave enough to do things the other one is too knucklehead

Its funny how the only interactions i seen of tails and knuckles up until sonic movie 2 was in sonic heroes and in sonic advance 3 if u partner them up together. I remember taiks donning some boxing gloves when he flies and tries to imitate knuckles

It feels like Knuckles is the oldest brother of Sonic and Tails, the one who’s nicer to the youngest and more harder on the middle child.

I was waiting on the part about Sonic Movie 2 😂 I'm so glad it highlighted their relationship. Despite the little time they interacted, I got more chemistry out of them than the 30 years of Sonic games. I wish Knuckles would call Tails by his names (maybe he will in StH3) but "Fox" does work, like it's his own warrior name Knuckles bestowed upon him. Owch my heart ❤️😭 It's too much wholesomeness.
