We cover when to use plastic fins, fiberglass, or carbon. Rule of thumb, if you have the money, buy a set of fiberglass or carbons to make you more efficient in the water. Plastics are great when starting out and for use in shore dives where rocks can break your gear.

Hi! How much performance difference in percentage would you estimate is between fiberglass and carbon fins? Would you say you really feel the difference when using them in the water?

I’d say way less noticeable than say plastic to fiberglass or carbon

Overall I’ve been a fiberglass guy. I actually have a pair of 40 cm small rubber/plastic fins which I use for shallow dives and quick trips for ease of transportation. But in general I use my medium stiffness fiberglass fins for everything. I know carbon fiber fins have increased in durability by a lot compared to how they used to be.

I’d prob get a pair of fiberglass soft fins since the shore dives will bang them up good
