Experimental archaeology: bringing Jamestown's early church to life

Archaeologist David Givens explains how we choose to go about a partial reconstruction of Jamestown's early church. Based on the archaeology the crew has recently created, largely by hand, the outline of the 1608 church by building mud walls.

Thank you for explaining the original evidence was not destroyed while building this model. I admire the work all of you do.

What a wonderful idea! It seems that your team is doing an excellent job to give to the present-day viewers and visitors to Jamestown a precise and correct view of the life as it was. Since the church would have been a pivotal place for those souls, it seems perfect that the "real thing" be given as closely as is possible. Good job, can't wait to see what's next!

By the way, in three different shots (running time about 29 sec.; 1:11 and 3:04) I caught sight of 4 crosses...are these marking the pulpit area or what, grave markers perhaps??? thanks again! m.m.
