    Another good one, James. I'd be curious to see a test using the smoke tube in the Kamado Joe ash drawer as a way to add smoke for longer cooks instead of adding chunks/chips to the ash drawer. Could be interesting for low and slow cooks, especially an overnight cook where you don't want to have to baby it.

    Using wood chips on the bottom and wood chucks on top inside my smoke box of the Woodwind Pro I have gotten great results. The wood chips smolder just enough time to get the wood chunks to smolder thereafter. If you don't use wood chips the wood chunks take a bit to smolder so there would be several minutes that the WWP would not be producing as much smoke as a pellet tube constantly smoking. Using this method I have gotten a very dark bark within 3 to 4 hours doing briskets where other pellet grills would have taken much longer. Great video and great comparison but I think that each smoker takes some trial and error to get the best out of them.

    Loved this! Only thing is like to see you try is using actual wood chips in the tube. I do this and I think it provides even more robust smoke flavor. I usually use a combo hickory and apple but sometimes just pure hickory. Cherry has also been in the mix with poultry.

    Thankyou I've been looking forward to this. I bought the last generation WW36 here in the UK because it was on offer. Did a cook on it last weekend using lumberjack pellets and I loved the results. I also have a Masterbuilt 560 and the smoke profile was only marginally different. I'll give the smoke tube a go and see for myself. Thanks for the video!

    I have a couple of the Amazon pellet tubes. They work great with my WSM & gas Weber grill. Not as a substitute, but when you just want a mild smoke taste.or supplement. I have not been successful using them with my KJr. I believe there is just not enough oxygen inside as it smolders out. On the Weber grills for smoking cheese and NOT lighting a fire.

    Apparently you do not know true smoke flavor. You absolutely cannot attain that smoke flavor through a pellet, which is compressed sawdust. If you need a tube with more pellets to achieve smoke flavor then your pellet grill is not doing its job in the first place. All your doing is wasting money on more pellets...aka rabbit food. Pellet GRILLS are nothing more than easy bake ovens, set it and forget it. You want real smoke flavor, Nan up and run your pit.

    I would like to see you put up Pitts and Spitts pellet grill against one of Big Joe Kamado's and see what happens. The Pitt's is very expensive and I am thinking about adding one to my collection. You are right about a brisket tasting different from a Kamado and Stick burner. I did do an inexpensive cut brisket on a pellet grill and it came out just okay. I just did not want to waste big money a prime brisket and have it ruined. Ok, 1. The smoke box isn't the only thing that makes the Woodwind a game changer. You can hold at 160 on the woodwind. How much would you have to spend on an additional warming cabinet? 2. You honestly have to babysit the flapper valve on the woodwind for the absolute best results. Running the grill with the smoke box closed off and steadily smoldering will get you smoke tube results. You can't run it like a standard pellet grill and expect different results. 3. Off-topic, but we have to talk about the shape of your sidekick flattop... I know this was done in the Canadian winter, but WOW! That poor little guy needs some love. Despite Netflix's claims to the contrary, orange is actually NOT the new black.😮 Full disclosure: i have a lid on my Blackstone, and my Sidekick has the sear box. Also has a lid. Please don't ask to see the surface of MY flattop. 😂

    Well thanks for doing this tube test. I tried using a tube smoke on my LP gas grill and found no additional smoke flavor. I tried putting the smoke tube under the grate to see if I could get the smoke coming up and and over my meat, put that didn't add much. Looking at your pellet smoker when you open the doors, I see a lot of smoke moving inside of the grill. Looking back now at my gas grill, I guessing the gas grill vents too much air by design to make sure the flame stays going and this is why the pellet tube didn't work on my gas grill. So how about adding the pellet tube to the Kamado and see if that adds more smoke flavor so it tastes more like a off-set? I going to try my smoke tube with the cow meat I cook.

    You don’t “have” to add wood to the WW pro, it’s optional. But it’s going to beat any normal pellet smoker by a country mile when it comes to flavor and bark using the fire box it has. Pellet tubes aren’t an equivalent, the pellets are smoldering at a lower temperature while they’re in the cooking chamber giving you constant bad smoke directly to your food, compared to the firebox on the WW pro that sits directly over the firebox giving you a lot cleaner smoke that mixes in with the pellet smoke as it comes up giving you better flavor.

    The smoke tube maybe has a higher floor, but has a lower ceiling. It doesn't look like you took full advantage of the smokebox on the Camp Chef. Looks like the fire burned too clean, or even burned out and wood wasn't replaced. I've had better luck loading a handful of pellets as easy ignition, and I load it up with as much wood chunks as will fit, usually just 2 will fit. Then I load more after 30-45 minutes when there are still coals left in the smoke box. Repeat a couple of times. This is the way.

Almost all new pellet grills have a super smoke setting sub 200f as that’s where the pellet smoke can actually impart smoke flavour

  • @Paul-ge7dg
    @Paul-ge7dgАй бұрын

    I'm sorry friend, pellet GRILLS are not smokers. Extra tubes and different P settings do not make any difference. You will not get that smoke flavor from a pellet which is compressed sawdust like you would from chunks or splits of real wood. It is impossible because of the pellets burning in a small ash pot. Sure those pellets will produce lots of smoke, but unfortunately without the flavor. What you have with a pellet GRILL, is basically an easy bake oven, set it and forget it. If you really want to attain that "smoke" flavor, man up and run your pit with real wood! Pellets are nothing more than rabbit food.

    @@SmokingDadBBQThat small wood chip box on the Camp Chef, I would not really call those chips chunks. I use a Old Country off set smoker and depending on the amount of smoke flavor you want you can most definitely taste and smell the smokiness. I used to have a Traeger grill and tried to adjust the P settings, smoke tubes and although I could get a smoke ring which actually adds nothing to flavor, it's only a cooking process, I could never get that smoke flavor. I no longer have that grill due to that misrepresentaction.
