    Hey Zach! I just smoker two turkeys for Thanksgiving. I have a Pit Boss vertical smoker and a smoke tube. I'd thought about using wood chips in the smoke tube for some time now, but never tried it until now. The difference was, I was thinking chips INSTEAD of pellets in the tube. But your suggestion of mixing the two made more sense to me. I have to tell you, the turkeys stole the show! The mix in the tube did burn faster, but I was okay with that. I wanted the extra smoke for the early part of the cook. Thanks for the tip!

    Not sure that you'll see this, but I just bought a a Pitboss Smoker from Lowes 2 days ago. While there I also bought 2 smoke tubes and they are the Amazen brand. Just clicked on this video to see your tips on the tube and thought it was funny that I happened to buy that brand. Anyways if you need more, seems like Lowes is carrying them. Thanks for the tips. Wish me luck on my first cook tonight. 😂

    Microwave the pellets for a few minutes to get more moisture out of the pellets to improve the burn.

    Have you tried a stick burner? It's a labor of love if you are a hands-off bbq enthusiast, but it's fun if you enjoy the flames, stoking the fire, etc. But the results are better then a pellet smoker with a smoke tube. I own a Traeger and an OK Joes stick burner, and the stick burner is simply superior with flavor, smoke, and bark. I use my Traeger for shorter cooks because I've found it simply can't do as good of bbq with long cooks as my stick burner. Thanks for your videos.

    I’ve been around stick burner cooks and helped manage a few fires. I’ve never had one myself though. I’m currently researching them and working out a budget. (That means I’ll buy one in about two years) 😅 You’re right about the quality of the Q. It’s what all other types of cookers strive to replicate. Thanks for watching! Smoke on!!!

    enjoy your videos as i recently purchased the pit boss vertical like what you are using. do o use the same flavor pellets in the tube as what you have in the hopper? or do you mix and match? also i have seen some videos where they are using a charcoal blend, i dont know that i want to risk experimenting thats why i watch you as you have learned from your mistakes and share that. so- all that being said what is your take on the different flavors of pellets ie charcoal blend?

  • @TheAmericanSmoke

    @TheAmericanSmoke

    Жыл бұрын

    Typically I use a blend such as Pit Boss Competition blend in my hopper, occasionally mixed with 1/3-1/2 charcoal blend. For my tube I use whatever flavor I want to emphasize. So if I’m smoking a pork loin and want apple wood smoke to stand out, that’s what I put into the tube. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    I got the basket instead of the tube. Do I light the pellets before I put it in the smoker? Also can I use wood chunks in it and if so do I lite those also? Sorry new to the smoking world and just got my first pitboss pro series smoker.

    Light the pellets before closing the smoker door. The need more air to burn than to smolder. Let them burn for 7-10 minutes then it’s ok to close them up in the smoker. I have not used chunks in my bracket yet, but I intend to try it. Come over to my Facebook group. American Smoke Carnivores. Lots of people in there sharing tips and recipes. Thanks for watching!
