It was a real treat working on these animatic explorations.
The task at hand was to try and develop a visually appealing plane-crash sequence, that would match at the end the already filmed physical sets and their surroundings. To that end we were provided with a drone footage of the physical set in Greece, and based on that we made a rough 3d scan of the building and the physical set of the crashed plane. Since there was literally no place where we could "crash" the plane without that footage contradicting the already filmed stuff on location (leading to reshoots and costly CGI) - we came up with the idea to try and crash the plane on the rooftop of the building. I did the exploration of a number of virtual cameras that could possibly sell that shot.
The destruction was done in a now (sadly) discontinued build of Blender, called BlenderFractureModifier, and after the cameras were finetuned and locked - they were exported to the Houdini and Maya teams to develop the final version of the shot.
