In the first episode of the Western Ecology Tour films, we visit the western sea lochs of Scotland and meet with Dr Lauren Smith and Chris Rickard - co-founders of the Shark and Skate Citizen Science Scotland group.
Shark and Skate Citizen Science Scotland is a group set up by my friends and colleague Chris Rickard and Dr Lauren Smith. With the aim of obtaining important data about the various elasmobranchs found in Scottish waters. They record species sightings of individuals (both alive and deceased), egg cases, and behavioural observations.
Citizen science such as this can be fundamental in furthering our understanding of their biology, behaviour, and habitats which is integral to the development of more effective conservation and management.

Hahaha I’ve not had to do much to camera for a while so I no doubt need to a fair few takes when I start again this winter 🥶
