One when a bullet went through the wall of their house and the other when their mother was shot. So one first responder may have been over emotional in THE MOMENT and came up with an untrue story. These medics are there for weeks or months suffering the feeling of hopelessness that they can do much to help. Perhaps you are interpreting hopelessness as not being honest.
