On page 31 of the manual it states that owning a province reveals "unreliable military info" for neighboring provinces. A scout in a province can reveal "military info" about that province, a spy delivers "more accurate military info than an ordinary scout" and scrying a province reveals "very accurate military info."

The income boxes are also nice as they show you „used“ resources and recruitment points in a province. So you can see from the main map which provinces have no recruitment set.

Yes it's incomplete intel, your scouts guess at how many troops are in a province, can that guess can vary quite a bit (i have +/- 50% max in my head, but i could be wrong about that). If you want to know for sure, move a scout in, script him to retreat, and let him attack. Then you can see exactly what is in the province. Oh and when you defeat Saurus indies, always check if that province let's you recruit their shamans, they can come in handy for quite a few nations. (in your case the answer is yes, and can give you access to a bit of astral magic)

If I'm expecting archers, and I've no reason to delay fighting, I place my troops up at the front to rush in before getting shot down.

Yeah either blitz in or delay for buffs basically. If you have battlefield wide buffs blitzing becomes even more attractive

New player to the Dominion series of games. I played a pretty scuffed MA Ulm game where the enemy Agartha pushed with thousands of troops after my awful attempts to eradicate the Ermor. Now I am playing EA Ermor with a Divine Emperor pretender for maximum SPQR. It is going well after I learned how to "sort" of counter Gryphon spam

Sounds like an exciting conquest! I love how this game forces you to adapt into your enemy as good as you can, providing very different gameplay experiences even if you just stick to the same nation a lot.

Lmao I had a multiplayer game of dominions 5 where I got stomped by Ulm while playing as Agartha after a failed attempt at destroying Ermor. Sounds like a spiritual successor

When you were talking about the recruitment cost of the various units it might have been a good opportunity to talk a bit about pretender design. Like right now, you are getting capped on recruitment due to resources. If you had taken Production 2 on your Pretender instead of Production 1 it would have increased resource generation by 30% while your Production 1 increases it by 15%. You also mentioned only being able to recruit 2 sacreds, and that 'most nations' are similar. Just thought it would be worth clarifying that the number of sacreds you can recruit is directly tied to the dominion strength of your Pretender. A nation that is heavily focused on powerful sacred units and wants to invest in them might have a Dominion of at least 7 possibly as high as 9 or 10

Bit of FYI 9:10 The number of holy points you get is the same as dominion strength. If you want to mass sacreds you can, buy need to think of that at the pretender creation stage. It can be increased slowly during a game: 1 point per 5 temples built, max 10 iirc. Given that losing all your dominion candles on the map is a loss condition, 3 can be dangerously little. (Not much of a problem vs AI. Although I once played a multiplayer game where someone started with Dom 2, and he lost on turn 2 or something due to a random event that reduced his dominion to zero, so be careful.)

Thanks a lot for these! I was just today checking the manual on how to increase the total amount of Sacred Unit Points for more sacred troops and somehow didn't find an answer. Much appreciated!

One of the things I do love about this game is that certain provinces let you recruit special troops. In my Machaka game for example, I've got a boggy province that gets me access to Jaguar Warriors and Slingers. Along with a priest/mage hybrid "officer" unit.

Yeah, the different types of Indie Troops you get per run really can define a lot. It's one of the pleasant RNG aspects of the game.

I love the series. I just wanted to throw in one thing that I think is very worth mentioning (and helped me a lot when I recently started) Hitting "?" brings up a context sensitive menu with all the hotkeys listed for that particular screen. I understand that you don't want to overwhelm people, but it's something the game does a poor job of pointing out and is by far my favourite QoL bit of knowledge.

I've never played a dominion game but was a huge fan of Hero's of Might and Magic 2 and it gives me a similar vibe, just on a vastly larger and complex scale. I still Feel a bit intimidated lol, but your videos sure are the best help I've found. Thank you for making this series.

This game is wonderful for learning it slowly. Getting into the basics is actually not hard at all, it's just hard to not get lost in the data wastes of this game. But the base core is quite a simple learning loop. You can min-max the hell out of this game to you own convenience though. I find myself restarting and restarting again and again just to get that new idea implemented, to try out that other starting strategy and a lot of other things. Love the game for all the experimentation it provides. Thanks for your comment o/

Same reason that I play Dwarf fortress. "Losing is fun" as they say. The gameplay loop of DF is quite simple but all the funny and complex situations you can handle in 300 different ways is what makes it fun, even in losing. I'm looking forward to this and cant wait to make an undead army of only the weakest zombies trash units and and max out unit count to throw an ocean of bodies at the enemy! @@Ic0nGaming

Thank you for this series Ic0n. It's been helping me quite a lot. That tip about using the "D" key to invest gold into province defense is game changing. In my game I decided to play Machaka since I wanted an animal/totemic themed faction. I'm at the point where I have multiple enemy factions at my boarders and have lost a couple of provinces because the defense there was just like 3 guys.

I was living under that impression as well! But it has also been stated that intel is never truly accurate and only shows a rough estimate. So I think it's the latter until something convinces me otherwise.

I didn't change up anything on the graphics config of the game there. You can zoom in and out of the map though, so the visual size is a very relative thing
