Expanding a Three Measure Idea (Piano Sketch)

Музыка

I decided to take a short 3 measure idea from my Piano to Strings video ( • From Piano To Strings ) from last June and expand it into 2 minutes of music. I demonstrate my process for developing a really simple piano idea into longer musical phrases and sections.

This was excellent Alex, so so useful. I loved that you started with chords as I do get a bit obsessed with starting with motifs and then harmonising. Now we have seen you build the piano sketch I would be very happy to see the orchestration process.

Very good and instructive video into the creative process and the possibilities of decisions to make in composing. Love it, and your music, too! Smooth dissonances! I also like the gradual changes in the chords from white keys to black keys and the different mixtures of them very much.

I loved this. This is a constant struggle of mine. I liked how your idea actually became the end of the piece. I would definitely be interested in seeing your process of taking this and orchestrating it.

I have recently stumbled onto your videos and am learning so much from you. Thank you for sharing this content and providing deeper insights into your creative process. As much as I've come to enjoy score analysis, I think your videos take it one step further than most. By rewinding the creative process further back so we can see and understand the choices being made before a note even hits the paper, you help me overcome some of my own cognitive barriers to writing music. Sincere thanks - and another vote for seeing this proceed further down the orchestration path.

This is a difficult choice. I would love to see how you orchestrate, what you have already written, but it would be equally interesting to see how you are going to continue this. Both, pretty please?😄 Great to see how you divide the process into small, manageable steps, btw. I always try to do too much at the same time. And get stuck.

And I’m looking forward to the upcoming orchestration of this piece! Technical side note: your piano sounds great. Mind if I ask what plug-in/library you’re using?

I wanted to bring the basic idea to the beginning of the piece, but also contrast that material with something different in the measures in between (with new contrapuntal melodic material)
