@@ClayWheeler And just for your knowledge, I did eGPU and everything is working fine. Mine is 2017 Dell Inspiron 14 7460, core i5 7200u with dGPU 940MX. My eGPU is a GTX 960 2gb with NGFF EXP GDC 8.5c . Everything is running so much better after I did this eGPU. I just needed to DISABLE the 940mx on Device Manager. Cause If I uninstall the drivers, the Windows automatically detects the dGPU, enables It and turns It the "master" GPU again. So I need to disable and then install the GTX 960 newer drivers. Everythin is working fine. The only problem is th 2gb VRAM of my 960... Some games like Assassins Creed or Cyberpunk 2077 needs at least 3gb... That's why I'm thinking to upgrade the eGPU for gtx 970 (even If it is too powerful for my CPU) or gtx 1060 3gb. I dont know If will be a good trade change the 960 2gb for the 960 4gb... What do you think? Anyway, today a friend with 1060 6gb will bring his gpu to me, for a test... But I think the 970 will garantee a good compatibility

On your comment, said that you need to disable the 940mx driver right? So, if you install your GTX960 with the 940mx's driver disabled, does that mean that you're overwriting 940mx driver with your gtx960? What if you need to go portable (unplugs all of the cables and back to original state again), does the 940mx still works normally? Does the GTX 960 driver support the 940MX driver too so you wont have to reinstall the 940mx driver again? I really appriciate your future replies, Thanks in advance btw🙏

What is the Laptop model name? And by the way, Actually you can still use the same NVidia card even if your Laptop already have NVidia dGPU like GT 620m. You need to Clean Uninstall of NVidia GT 620M and then Completely Disable it from Device Manager. And then you can use NVidia GTX 1650. If you're using Radeon RX 560 you will need special PSU because RX 560 don't have PCIe power connector. The PSU you need is "Dell DA 220 Watt Brick PSU" usually only cost $20. None of it will work. Because for heavy Games that is dependant on CPU, you will need at least 4 Cores 8 Threads CPU. The only Old Laptop CPU that is suitable for those Games is Core i7 xxxx QM or Core i7 xxxx MQ. Core i7 with 2 Cores 4 Threads or 4 Cores 4 Threads still cannot play those Games you mentioned. Even if you're using RTX 2080 ti. You need a Laptop with Core i7 2670QM (year 2012) or Core i7 3610QM (year 2013) or Core i7 4700MQ (year 2014) Any Laptop CPU that is Lower than QM or MQ cannot play those games, even with RTX 2080 ti, you will struggle to get 20 FPS.

With mPCIe version? Try to unplug the eGPU mPCIe-HDMI cable from the dock, but let the mPCIe stay connected to the Laptop. And then just boot. If the boot is successful, try to uninstall the AMD Radeon HD 7650M using DDU Display Driver Uninstaller. And then restart, go to BIOS. Check for something similar to this video about booting from network adapter boot. After that, replug the HDMI to eGPU dock. Try to boot again. If it fails, you might have accidentally flipped the Physical switch (or maybe the seller has toggled the switch) on the eGPU dock. If it hard to reach, use needle to move the switch

There are several points to pay attention here First, Core i5 5200U might be using NGFF WiFi slot. So you need to get EXP GDC NGFF. Example of assembly here kzread.info/dash/bejne/on-qlpVvo7LYftI.html Secondly, 750ti or 1050ti is a 75 Watt GPU category. You need different approach to feed Power to the eGPU board because the White Cable Adapter that Bridge from PSU to eGPU Actually doesn't give a stable 75 Watt. Check my Latest eGPU Troubleshooting video regarding this one.

it sounds like your Laptop is from early 2017? There's a Hit or Miss situation inside your Laptop's motherboard. First of all, does it have 2 M.2 NVMe Slots? And yes, must be M.2 NVMe and not M.2 SATA. Because most Laptop from that year only have 1 M.2 NVMe SSD Slot. I was wondering if it's possible to use EXP GDC NVMe V9.0b for your Laptop. Therefore you must open it by yourself to confirm. However that Laptop might have NGFF Type WiFi Adapter. The difference between NVMe vs NGFF WiFi slot is about 32 Gbps vs 8 Gbps. For the NGFF EXP GDC Demonstration, read the Pinned Comment of this video. For the NVMe slot External GPU, This is the demonstration where you Plug it into the NVMe SSD slot kzread.info/dash/bejne/kWmN25psdqbHYM4.html For a little more Tidy setup with NVMe slot, you can try to use these. Good question. Step 1. You may need to change the Power Plan solution from Control Panel. It is either Power Saving, Balanced, or High Performance mode. Change it to High Performance mode. Step 2. Go to Device Manager, Scroll down to "System", expand it, scroll down to "High Precision Event Timer" right click on it, and Disable. Step 3. After doing step 1&2 Shutdown the Laptop, make sure the eGPU cable inserted properly. And plug the USB pendrive or Audio jack before turning On the Laptop. Step 4. After turning On the Laptop, try to safely remove hardware of that USB pendrive, and then, put it back in. Try to see what happens. Oh, before you uninstall the GT740M Driver, you must take a note of where is GT740M located in Device Manager. Because after uninstalling GT740M driver, you must disable the PCIe controller that is responsible for GT740M. Because most Laptops that use NVidia GT-M GPU have at least 2 different PCIe controller in Device Manager. You must disable the internal PCIe controller for GT740M. Because if you don't disable the PCIe controller for GT740M, when you plug the GTX 1070, and attempting to install driver for GTX 1070, it will still be detected for GT740M. -Unless you're using Radeon RX for eGPU, then no need to uninstall anything.

Actually you can, all Laptops can. First of all, you will be limited with 2 Options for External GPU. WiFi slot OR M.2 NVMe slot. The First Option is by WiFi slot, which without a doubt, you have NGFF slot. With NGFF you have 8Gbps Bandwidth (while this video is just 2.5Gbps) So you can use EXP GDC NGFF. Second Option is M.2 NVMe. To make sure about this, please open your Laptop manually, and check if the Motherboard have Two M.2 NVMe slots and make sure it is written "NVMe" or "PCIe" on its PCB board near the M.2 slot. If it says "M.2" or "SSD" then you cannot use eGPU with this slot. If it says "NVMe" or "PCIe" then you can use that slot for eGPU. So you can buy EXP GDC V9.0b NVMe. Thunderbolt needs its own Chipset on the eGPU dock Module (just like any other Thunderbolt External GPU on the Market) Beast EXP GDC doesn't sell Thunderbolt eGPU. The only reason Thunderbolt eGPU is not Cheap -- around $200 or more -- is because the Company who makes every Thunderbolt eGPU must pay Royalty for every unit being made. Yes I know Intel gave away the Rights patent for Thunderbolt interface, but apparently it doesn't apply to TB3. Only TB4 and forward. And YET, The only Thunderbolt eGPU that already exists on the market is TB3 based, no TB4 existed yet -- in theory TB4 should be Cheaper. But if you're looking for the Cheapest Thunderbolt eGPU, you might want to search on Chinese Online Shopping websites like Alibaba or AliExpress. You might want to check ADT-Link R43SG TB3.

Oh wait you said Intel 4th Gen. So it must be mPCIe eGPU. But since you have 4th Gen, it means the bandwidth is 5Gbps , which is double the bandwidth from this video 2.5Gbps. Anyway, if you don't frequently bringing the Laptop for Traveling, then it is a good idea to use NVidia Graphics Card. Which means Permanently disabling GeForce 840M. So if I can estimate the budget, it is like $30~45 EXP GDC eGPU mPCIe (might not including Shipping) $15~25 PSU. Any NVidia card you can find at reasonable Price like GTX 1060 3GB, because that card is Less desirable for CryptoMiners, so it must be cheap.

Hey, this video is the most informative one I have ever found on this mater, I recently acquired the EXP GDC V9.0v and have a GTX 1650. My laptop has a m.2 slot that seems to run on x4 speeds (the one I use for the m.2 m key) and I also could have compatibility with the ngff key. I have tried to get the drivers to work for a while but I cannot get rid of the error 43 code, the dock and the card are detected but I just cannot figure out how to get this thing to work at all…should I try setting my display to an external monitor so it can work or is it more of a hardware issue rather than a driver issue? Thanks if you are able to read this, I am desperate for help :(

@@ClayWheeler Update on the matter: I used a system scanner to determine exactly which PCIe interface I have and I came across that I have a PCIe v2.0 (5.0 GT/s), my laptop is an HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-cd0xxx. This PCIe bus appears as dissabled thanks to my Intel UHD Graphics 620 (slot is not used at all also), though I saw a tutorial where the m.2 at x2 speeds can work but restraining the capacity of the eGPU, I cannot ger the system to let the eGPU work. I am not sure this version of the beast works entirely for this laptop and 2.0 PCie m.2 slot, not sure if it is a GPU issue or if it is the m.2 itself (dunno if I must disable my integrated graphics card for it to work either). On regards of the email, better not expose myself, sorry.😅 Thank you for replying despite the time lapse of this video, hope some of this information can bring more light to my case, really appreciated.

Just open it up and check the slot type of the wifi card. Also I would suggest to instead get a rx 500 series because unlike the gt 1030 they will be supported by the new amd FSR technology. You can get a rx 560 for about 140$ right now on Ebay.

  • @ClayWheeler

That Laptop almost the same to my Laptop. But I don't recommend to use it with Lumion. Lumion needs at least 4 Cores 4 Threads 4 Logical CPU. Any CPU below that is not recommended. So instead of Core i5 2430M with 2 Cores 4 Threads 4 Logical CPU, you need to upgrade to Core i7 3630QM, which is 4 Cores 8 Threads 8 Logical CPU. Lumion needs high CPU instead of GPU. As for the GPU, anything is possible. At that point I recommend building a cheap Desktop PC instead of using Laptop with External GPU like this.
