    I've been putting off getting new pipes for my 1200 XL for a while now mainly because I had yet to find a good video that showcased the sound difference between the leading pipes, but I guess now I have no choice! Excellent video, super helpful showcase and it pretty much sealed the deal on the Bassani Road Rage pipes for me. Now I just have to start saving.

Does it sound really good like they say in the comments. If so I want to buy it, and how long will it take it to ship and get to me I live in nacogdoches, Tx 75964 Please let me know. Lemmy I have a brand spanking new '15 Road King and I just want to change slip ons (purely for sound) and leave the headers alone with cat and also leave stock airbox alone. Can I get away without a retune? Seems like I should as with cat in place and no change of air in restrictions shouldn't change much. Thanks.

  • @RevZilla

    @RevZilla

    4 жыл бұрын

    Unfortunately, no. The issue is the orientation of the cylinders and the firing order. The classic _potato-potato_ sound is unique to Harley. A Rebel 300 is always going to have a _thumper_ sound, because it has a single cylinder. The Rebel 500 is a parallel twin, so it has its own unique sound. Generally, changing the exhaust will make it louder and with a lower bass sound. So it won't sound like a Harley, but it will sound a lot better. -DrewZilla

  • @RevZilla

    That's great! As for loud exhausts, you likely won't have access to the same exhausts as we do. There are likely stricter noise requirements in the UK as well. We also cannot ship exhausts outside the US. Here in the US, though, Rinehart Exhausts are known for having a loud, deep tone. Vance & Hines also sound great, and you're more likely to find them available in the UK. -DrewZilla

    RevZilla & Lemmy thanks for the awesome Sporty comparison. The drive-by portions are exactly what real world sounds are, the engine under load and what the bike sounds like at distance. Living in a downtown scene provides lots of noise ord.'s that prevent me from getting an exhaust system. Would you happen to have measured the dB levels by any chance? I'm lost between S&S Power Tune and the Cobra Slip-On mufflers. Which is louder?

  • @chuckruck571

    @chuckruck571

    8 жыл бұрын

    Deeper, not louder. Additionally do either mufflers need to be repacked? I have heard of certain mufflers needing to be repacked after "X" miles.

    Wow, very impressed by the detail of the response. Informative and insightful! I was looking at the V&H with the quiet baffle as an option but didn't know how quiet they would be. I saw the exhaust comparison video, it's the video I am responding to. And to clarify, I was talking about the S&S Power Tune slip-on muffler, not the full system. I don't have to short shift now but I figured if I did go the route of a full system, I would have a less than thrilling commute to downtown and back. I look at power of a vehicle like a glass of water on a table. The more power you wring out of the engine, the closer to the edge, and more likely for a fall or failure. Being that my Sportster is my daily commute, I want to keep it running as failure free as much as possible. So slip-ons are probably about as much as I feel comfortable with pushing the power envelope. So now my first two choices of muffler have turned to a different two. This was the wrong rabbit hole to go down I suppose. V&H, & Cobra. Leaning towards the Cobra, but the looks of the V&H Straight Shots remind me of my Dad's `78 FLH Shovelhead.

    As always, Lemmy has a great guide that touches on this. The long and short of it is that when you are swapping your stock exhaust with a full system like the Straight Shots, you're going to want to make some adjustments to the Air / Fuel ratio. Rather than going straight towards a new air filter, I'd look into Fuel Management solutions first. More airflow won't help if your bike is starved for fuel. Any opinions on smaller bikes? XH750 to be exact. Sounds like a weedwacker off the showroom floor but has a nice cackle on decel with the baffles out. Even with the baffles out it sounds like a sport bike (pretty high pitched/screaming) at highway speeds/high RPM. I’m wondering how to bring out more low tones across the board.

My question, are all of these various slip on mufflers just as loud as straight pipe? Do any of them allow you to add baffles? And what about back pressure, do you need to add something like the DK Torque Inserts? I'm looking for volume halfway between no muffler straight pipe and stock.

    Smack Tapolis Sound is really a personal preference, so take a listen to a bunch of options in our Exhaust Comparison below! Remember to use the Bike Finder on RevZilla to narrow down your selection. The slip-ons aren't quite as loud as straight drag pipes, and you won't need any additional inserts, so really any of the exhausts in our comparison video would be good options! -DrewZilla *kzread.info/dash/bejne/o5uWmZWslcbUfLQ.htmlm25s

    I have V&H Straight Shots on my Sportster which are very close to being straight pipes...very loud. I added the quiet baffles and they dropped the volume just enough to make riding for extend periods manageable but still with a powerful sound.

    Hello Revzilla. I have a 2016 48 and right now I've narrowed it down to V&H short shots or MagnaFlow/AN lowdowns. I prefer a louder, deeper sound (know it's subjective) and am also looking for best performance gains I can get. Which system would you guys recommend?

  • @RevZilla

    @RevZilla

    +AeraunZerimar For performance gains with a deeper sound, you probably should get a longer 2-into-1 system instead of the shorter options you mentioned. I'm thinking the F-Bomb, Riot, Road Rage, or Competition Series pipes. You also will definitely need a fuel tuner. If you keep the stock air cleaner and don't want to tune the bike, get some Straightshots Slip-On Mufflers. If you want a full system exhaust, go with the Shortshots Staggered. With a full system exhaust, you'll need to re-tune the ECU with a fuel tuner. So a couple of questions- firstly will a 1200 custom sound the same as the 883s that you show on the video? And secondly I really want loud - so a suggestion of a loud full system without compromising much power please. Btw the Grenades sound very loud.

  • @RevZilla

    The 1200 will sound pretty similar to the 883. The Grenades are definitely loud but might compromise power just a bit. The best combination of sound and power would likely be the Bassani Road Rage Mega Power. Remember that with a full system, you'll need to re-tune the bike, either at a shop or by using a fuel tuner yourself such as the Fuelpak FP3. -DrewZilla (www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-grenades-hi-output-exhaust-for-harley-sportster-2004-2016) (www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/bassani-road-rage-mega-power-exhaust-system-for-harley-sportster-2014-2015) (www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-fuelpak-fp3-autotuner-for-harley-2011-2016)

    so i know this probably isnt the right place to ask this, but here goes anyways. i just got my motorcycle license, and looking for a decent bike that wont hurt the pocket so much, since im still in college. i came across a 2000 sportster 883 with 12k miles on it for right around $3k. first question is would this be a good beginner bike? ive never really rode before, but past the test with a perfect score. 2nd question is assuming theres nothing wrong with it, is this a good deal? or am i most likely looking at a bike that is going to come with some issues? thanks in advance man

  • @RevZilla

    mrbtwicePSN $3,000 is right around what Kelly Blue Book rates it in excellent condition from a dealer. Assuming it's in good or excellent condition, a running motorcycle for $3,000 seems fair to me. The 883 is definitely a nice option for a beginner rider. It's not too big or too powerful. I'm guessing someone put 12,000 miles on it over the course of 3-5 years then parked it. If it's been sitting for a long time, make sure the tires aren't dry rotted and don't have flat spots. Also, make sure the fluids have been changed and it's been stored properly. Best of luck! Give us a shout if you have more questions. ;-) -HVB

As for highly recommended options for the Heritage, long, low, and classic exhausts are popular to complement the Heritage styling. Bassani, Vance & Hines, and Freedom Performance have some great options. Look at the long shot and fishtail styles for sure. Or, for slip-ons, classic 3 inch slip-ons are always popular. Yes, you can install slip-ons without tuning. However, if you've installed an aftermarket air cleaner, then adding a slip-on exhaust would require a tune. With a stock air cleaner, you'd be fine. -DrewZilla

    I want to buy a slip on exhaust for fatbob, which is best sound? And biggest sound?

    Short pipes with large diameters offer the loudest sound, so that's what you should be on the lookout for. Just plug your make / model / year into our parts finder and see what we have for slip-ons. -Kraus-e

    +gary gack That's way too subjective a question. Both companies make great exhausts. We don't currently carry D&D, so I recommend looking around on KZread for some sound comparisons to see what you like. -DrewZilla
