To many of those brave Navy seaman, CNN's Brooke Baldwin is like a member (i.e. aunt or sister) of their families. Its a honor to meet her; she is a fair, just and caring person who does a great job at CNN. Stop thinking that everything is sexual.

What I choose to take from this professional video is the dedication, sacrifices, and discipline, the men and women on the USS Anzio demonstrate everday for our nation. Brooke is proud of her former class-mate, the entire crew, and deeply respects their mission and so do I. I served in the US Army, but still reverence their service on that ship. Brook left CNN and the USS Anzio is on the list for decom. (with China barking?). I say keep Anzio until the rudders fall off. Great video!

  • @amitroiu

Depends on the type of deployment, usually there's a restock on the sea... but again, it depends on the mission. In 9 months I have had only 2 ports to stop in for 4 days in each, and that was it.

  • @michaelorshantelc1016

i was on a ship last year also, and when you are away from your family for most of the year every day is hard. Sometimes you can email them and sometimes you better learn how to write a letter. Ports depend on the mission needed. I was luckier than Alex, I got off the ship every 45 days in the 8.5 months. And some ships are even more dangerous then the one shown here. Always have to be on your toes, head on a swivel. Be aware of your surroundings. And try not to worry about those you left behind at home.

They changed everything around during my '99 deployment. Before they gave us our own emails, they told us that whenever friends/family emailed us to put our names in the subject line. The shop SNCOIC would print the email out for us to read when we got in (if we were off shift). I still remember my old USMC and USS Constellation email addresses, though.

Amazing how when you're on live camera to the world and know your family's (and who else knows) gonna see it, his instinct was to cut that whole teary eyed "goodbye speech" and he instituted the let's "keep it moving" attitude and moved on rather quickly there at the end.

Also....PLEASE stop comparing your service with that of other folks who also wore the uniform. No mater what branch of service you were in or what your MOS was......the fact is you all raised your right hand and gave an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that you will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that you will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed appointed over you, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help you God!.............Former U.S. Marine Corps Non-Commissioned Officer and black man.
