This is a pivotal moment for our nation's agricultural sector, and we are confident in newly elected Minster John Steenhuis ability to bring about genuine change. With a focus on supporting our farmers and enhancing agricultural practices, we believe that his leadership will be instrumental in driving economic growth. As a farmer in the agro-processing space, I am particularly excited about the opportunities this appointment brings. We anticipate improved support and resources that will help many of us in the sector to innovate, increase productivity, and contribute more significantly to the economy. Agriculture is the cornerstone of our economy and a key contributor to the global GDP. We look forward to the positive impact and advancements that will arise under. Wishing him and his team all the best.

As a farmer I wasn’t too sure about John but I must say he has some good intentions. I like the humility with which he is approaching the industry. And I agree fully with what he said about the agricultural ministry having a voice. Most people don’t know the Agriculture minister. God speed John !!👨🏿‍🌾👨🏽‍🌾👨🏻‍🌾🫡🇿🇦

John seems very down to earth in this interview. I enjoyed listening to him and although I know absolutely nothing about agriculture, he gave me the impression that this sector is in good hands under his leadership. Let's just hope nobody tries to sabotage anything. We need to put our country first.

Society often judges based on superficial criteria, like only having a matric. However, this overlooks a profound truth: it’s not about the car you drive but the skill and determination of the driver. True value and capabilities aren’t measured by material possessions or accolades but by how a person utilizes what they have, no matter how limited. This teaches us that our worth isn’t dictated by societal standards or external validations. Greatness lies in resilience, creativity, and the ability to maximize our resources. In life, it’s the journey and the choices we make with our given tools that define us. We should celebrate those who, despite having little, rise to greatness through their unwavering spirit and tenacity.

The minimum wage will have to be put on hold for 10 years to grow a low wage economy before transitioning to a higher wage economy. If you don't, automation and mechanisation will displace/prevent this.

Small farmers of all ethnicities should get the same assistance. By the fact of the population numbers, there should automatically be 70% black. That's if there is the apatite by black people to actually enter the sector and don't just want the land to on-sell.

4 years in farming but I felt like there was lack of implementations when it comes to farming tractors to small scale farmers like me. Vegetable farmers came together to fix one tractor in the the Department of Agriculture (Ermelo) thar tractor was used for by others who contributed nothing to that tractor. I hope Minister John will be able to help us especially the youth because they are the future of the country.

SA has too many small subsistence farms, we need to drive a lot of growth there. There are folks that know how to farm, the issue for a lot of them is just scaling. You need a government subsidised operational support network, Tracktors and harvesters on the move farm to farm..
