For those who don't know. That 'sports suit' is green and gold and it is what the South African "Springbok's" wear for formal events etc. It's a the uniform of National Representatives. He's been waiting until World Champ status to wear it as he now feels like a Springbok.

@@charlcoetzee3358 okay so its basically the world cup for rugby. then the SA national team wear it just like how highschool athletes get to wear the Varsity jackets in their school, but its a sports blazer instead. and it was done a respectful gesture for ddp as an mma fighter.

@@streetplaya23 something like that. Except fo the World Cup part. On average, about 5-10 or so of these jackets are awarded to South African rugby players every year when they get selected for the National team for the first time. That's about the churn rate for new young players emerging, old players retiring or incumbent players getting injured. The national team plays 12-13 matches annually against other countries' national teams. The World Cup is just a knock-out tournament that his held every 4 years (like the Olympics), so the 40 or so matches in the 4 years between World Cups are used by the coaches to refine gameplans and, select and mould the best possible team of eligibale and available players they can to take to the World Cup. Springbok players get a jacket for being selected and playing a any match, whether or not they make the eventual World Cup team or even win the tournament.

Congrats DDP! A true class act, and true champion. We hope you are enjoying your time here in Canada! We are proud to have you crowned champion in our country. You deserve it! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦👍👍👍👍💪💪

I feel like Jon Anik needs some praise for the attention he gives underdog fighters in the UFC 🙌🏻He is always tuned into the DDP’s and the Leon’s of the world, who all have fan bases, which are left out of the lime-light. He gives their stories a voice so we can all feel apart of the ride towards titles, allowing us to shed tears with our guy when he wins. So thanks Jon for telling their stories so well and letting us feel included in one of the greatest organisations in the world 🏆❤

There is alot of fantastic traditions I wish Anik and the guys knew about. In South Africa we prefer the clean cut athlets that represents and put our country in a good light, the green and gold blazer is a badge of honor and represents the Springbok, him wearingit on the pod shows he respects you guys majorly. Notice he was wearing a green and gold suit at the post fight much like the Boks when victorious. Just wish reports asked him about it.

Strickland won, DU plessis' variety is what got him the nod. The added takedowns and big looping shots that mostly went nowhere. Most of his low kicks were checked but it counted for him. Visuals win fights

Btw That's a South african blazer that all world champions get to wear after winning in their respective sports... usually with a shirt under though lol.

There's finally a real African champ now, which is good. But Strickland deserves a rematch much more than Adesanya getting a title shot after losing a one sided title fight the last time. Plessis' best round against Strickland was round 4 and it was mostly a one sided fight uptil then. 2/3 of Plessis' punches and kicks were either blocked or towards the air and he didn't even do anything with the takedowns. Strickland got robbed and if Adesanya had done everything Strickland did, then people would have called it a masterclass and only given Plessis round 4 or something...

Strickland had the more aggressive approach until round 3 where the momentum started changing for Plessis and yet he missed most of his punches. Round 3, 4 and half of round 5 was where Plessis had his best moments and succeed with his aggressive approach by putting Strickland on the backfoot but he still missed most of his punches and the kicks towards the legs were all blocked.

I'll just say one thing. Dricus took more damage, while Sean went back to his locker room put on his jeans and went back home, Dricus was still limping from all those leg kicks that Sean checked. I believe checking leg kicks should be scored as well if they score takedowns with no damage or sub attempts. You'll probably dismiss this with the statement "keep crying" or smt, but you know this makes total sense unless you're a casual.

Great interview. No shying away that he got properly hammered by Sean. But at the time, he gave as good as he got. And came out on top of a split decision. The social media threads all over also show two camps but quite interesting to see so many actuall mma fighters calling it DDPs way, also noting it was close. I hope DDP gets donder Sean again, and Adesanya and others as well. 2024 is gonna be lit.

Glad the world can see the true South African spirit through this champ. You can have class and be the best in the world.

Jon Anik I couldn’t agree more with your analysis during 297 and week in and out. I’ve been an avid mma fan for the last 6-7 years where before that I was adamant that boxing was more pure. Now I’m struggling to figure out what to do when there’s an off week. In watching over the years your voice, objective analysis, and sense of humor is what got me hooked. You provide hands down the best commentary in the business. Rogan, Daniel, Cruz, Bisbing, Laura and Megan are always a great add when mixed and matched with you. But you’re the mainstay and a huge part of the company/ promotion. The toxic social media losers are just that…and they’re everywhere. You’re the best…hang there brother…

@@christobosman5710 yeah I saw his eye, saw the video of the head clash too and that was damage caused in 1 round! That damage doesn’t count the next round it starts fresh. So yes dricus caused damage in 1 round due to a head clash or even due to a strike if ya wanna believe that but regardless that was 1 round if the fight, each round is scored separately with damage being the number one scoring factor.. Sean 1,2,and 5 all day long and a case could be made for 4-1 … leave emotion and how you feel about a fighters personality out of it.. if he lost I’d agree cause I don’t care either way, I just call em like I see em. Most fighters and ex fighters who are more versed on scoring criteria agree
