They do some great business. Pascal Gross was a key player in germanies second division and bundesliga for the relegated club. He was an intelligent and low risk signing. Im just surprised there arent more attempts like this… Same with vardy back then. This is how a transaction SHOULD function..... Brighton are well run & were rewarded for their hard work in scouting & development & as a result had max leverage & earned a great price plus Colwill on loan & Chelsea got a top quality veteran footballer in his prime for a price equal to the value of the player & Both clubs walk away Happy w/ the deal
Graham Potter an the Brighton set up is so underrated. When they sacked Chris Houghton I scratched my head but they’ve just gone to a new level. Rrespect to this man and Tony Bloom for standing up to the sheikhs' underhanded tactics in making Cucu hand in a transfer request. What a ridiculous statement..a player hands in a transfer request, not a club. City wanted cucurella, had their bid turned down and wouldn't go above what they thought he was worth. @@nicksimpson4058 A player doesn't hand in a transfer request without having an agreement with another club, which tapped him up illegally before agreeing a deal with his club. This happens often, but when he hands a transfer request after an impasse has been reached between the 2 clubs, as in this case, it's pretty clear what's going on. You're signing a CB instead anyway, so it seems it wasn't that big a priority but yet you did manage to unsettle a player from a smaller club. Between Sterling, Walker, Stones, Mahrez, Grealish and the failed Kane transfer, you do seem to be developing a pattern in buying the best players of clubs below you and thus weakening the league and its competitiveness, a la Bayern, which is worrying and one reason I'm bringing it up as a topic worthy of consideration.

@@alexab543 Walker was a necessary signing at the time and has proven himself I would suggest. Sterling was young and unproven at the time, and seven years later we sold him for pretty much what we paid after 300+ games. Stones was an absolute nailed on Pep signing and I'd say he's improved as a footballer. Grealish, yes we overpaid, but Villa signed him to a long term deal to ensure they got the money they wanted, which they were absolutely entitled to do. Mahrez has done pretty well for city, 20+ goals last season and again, Leicester made 60million profit on him Tapping up has been part of football for years and I would say it's more the agents who are doing it, making sure their players get the best move, so basically doing their job. I have nothing but respect for Brighton, a fantastically run club who have always impressed me on the field and even after selling Cucurella, they have replaced him with that Estupinian fellow who looks pretty handy
