As a time saving tip, you might try flood trays for those plugs you are hand watering on the porch. You can build a simple one by lining one of your tables with plastic and putting up some 2x4s on the sides. You just put your trays on the table. water the table. Walk away and do something else, then come back and move the trays off the table when they are saturated. It's a real time and water saver.

I use individual flood trays for my veg plants. I don't know if I trust my ability to build a whole table flat enough for the water to distribute correctly either.??? But, I've got a lot to learn about everything I'm doing.

I really enjoy seeing what goes on before the 1st sale date . Keep up the good work
I think the market is already flooded with roses 🌹. They’re one of the first plants available in early spring at the big box stores. Your nursery is looking great!💚

Could very well be a part of it.
Just a thought on roses... I bought rose bushes last year for the first time in my life. My reason for putting it off was that I don't understand them. They always seemed too complicated. How to prune them, how to feed them... So that was my excuse!
I'm so happy for all of you. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your opening day and through the season you make Bank.

Woohoo! Exciting times!! Everything is looking great.
Yahoo. opening day. Looking good yarrow is a great medicinal. Awesome news on the wholesale contact. 👍
exciting! Yarrow will get about as big as a soccer ball this year, but they will probably wait to bloom next year
Everything is looking awesome! Sending positive vibes for a great year!
I agree with you on the 'out' plants. I'm not interested in "filler" plants, and most of the roses I plant go wild within 2 years. Probably something I'm not doing right, but not interested in babying them.

Plenty of people do awesome with roses. Apparently, I'm not one of them, at least not now. Maybe I have the wrong varieties, wrong presentation, wrong customers. I don't know. But, nursery space is too valuable to be taken up with plants that won't sell. So, I move on.
That's a whole bunch of plants you have there!

Everything looks grand! Love your choices!
If you don't love doing seeds you will adore those small plugs! I love propagation. Hate seeds. Maybe set a sign on a stake that says Hosta house. My 2 cents. Great job!
Yarrow grows fast. Cut the first crop of flower stems to keep them bushy, they bloom late so I expect you can probably sell them this year. Though I'm more familiar with the wilf white variety, the cultivar may perform differently.

Hi don’t blame getting of roses old hat now with small plugs we would put three in a pot to sell same season good luck Dave uk
Wow😊
I’m in Conn. and the early spring is a happy time. I work at a garden center and this is the first year that I remember we have no snow leftover. Thank you for sharing your videos.
I think if you sold hybrid tea roses you'd get them sold better. I HATE Knockout Roses. Your plugs should be absolutely be ready by June. You're so fortunate to have nurseries closeby! Quick-flips are a great time-saver and money-maker...no coddling, until sales. The nursery is looking great!

I think roses are becoming a specialty plant for some and simultaneously falling out of favor for the average gardener.

That could be right. In the right place, I know they are a huge hit and many rose growers are doing very, very well. I just know they aren't for me.

Glad you're here.
I just love watching your videos because it validates much of what I'm doing in my small (part-time) plant nursery. I've also identified several local nurseries myself that I use for filling the holes in my inventory. Additionally, I acquire a few plants from the Ag programs at couple of local schools since they offer a variety of mature plants, are inexpensive, and the money goes to a good cause. We aren't even open yet (Opening Day April 4th), and we're selling Boston Ferns faster than we can acquire them. l feel your pain on the roses. Last season I seeded several hundred tomatoes, bell peppers, and jalapeno peppers, marked them down from $3 to $2 and still couldn't give them away. I wish you and your family much success this season! Thanks for all of the helpful advice!

Thank you so much!!
The price of premium hosta divisions is incredibly low this year, 89 cents to 1.25 for 3-4 eye bare root of popular varieties like guac, sum an substance etc. That's cheaper than what I could do dividing my own, especially getting 10-12 dollars for a full 1 gallon hosta
Everything is looking sooooo wonderful! I am so glad you found some local wholesale nurseries. That is really going to help you expand quickly!

Wow, a lot going on! Really interesting to see you growing just a small variety of good selling plants to becoming much more full service operation. Retailing can be challenging, you have to find what works best for your area and you are doing that very well. Exited for your opening in a couple weeks! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I think I’ve some Hydrangea cutting roooted and soma canna lilies. My road-trip may hurt them
I think if you can nail down your vegetable starts you’ll find they’ll be a big draw and fairly profitable for your business

I agree. I've learned a lot doing it - mainly some mistakes to NOT repeat.
How big were your pepper seedlings before you potted them up? How big are those cells the peppers are in? Are you planning to pot them up one more time?
@savvydirtfarmer

seedlings are in 72 ct trays (too big, really). My plans are changing because many of these plants are way too big. I started too early. No I'm potting most (or many) of them in 10 oz solo cups. I need something deeper like that to help the leggy plants. Learning as I go...
Will you be doing Mums for fall? I’d like to give it a try as I grow pumpkins and gem corn. But I can never find seeds or starts!
@savvydirtfarmer

Most likely I’ll be buying/reselling them; nor growing them yet.
Love you... Not watching today. Just had a flash flood take away most of my plants, including a raised garden bed (looks like I bulldozed it... Poof! Gone!) I'll probably pick back up but I'm also rethinking/regrouping. Time out ugh Think I'll start more seeds and let that be enough for now. Wondering what you might do, or how you might prevent if possible. Even my fabric washed away. Strown all over the place ugh Upsetting. If you haven't thought about such an event, please do. lol...ugh Have a great day you guys ❤❤❤

So sorry that happened! Few years ago we had a “gully washer” , 8 inches of rain in a very short time. My whole garden flooded, 16 raised beds, corn, potatoes…all the mulch I had just put down in the orchard was swept into the neighbors corn field 😮
