The fastest floor installation ever. That said, I am not crazy about the obvious diagonal pattern running cross the floor. Although it would be slower to lay, a random choice of board lengths would, I think, give a much better overall effect. Plus the finish on some of the skirting board ends was poor with uneven gaps.

@@4evergav what was wrong with the underlayment btw? is it because it doesn't overlap enough and not taped down? what's the correct method by the book in terms of putting down underlayment? i usually buy the ones with the adhesive layer on top, so i just overlap it, dont really need to tape it

    1) This isn’t wood is laminate 2) Pre-cutting the laminate by bunch you will have a lot of waste, is better to start with 3-4 cut pieces and reuse the left over from the end to start a new line. 3) The best way to install laminate, hardwood, or plank is not having a pattern, meaning mixing the lengths of the floor. 4) Baseboards he did a really good job.

All the comments here so negative about making a regular pattern and imposing your concept of safety. His method is good, the product could be slightly nicer with more careful cuts, but I bet he saves 20% the time just with the fast cuts. Also, not wearing safety shoes allows him to feel imperfections with his feet that would otherwise be invisible when wearing rigid shoes.

Let me be clear and make sure we both know what we’re talking about. An H pattern is a layout where all the board ends at the same points every other row creating an H appearance. I’m not talking about doing an H pattern in my layouts. I lay random board patterns with a variety. The eye sees a floor with no particular pattern, a continuity throughout the whole floor. With Your layout the eye is drawn to those diagonal seams. The brain tries to make sense of what it’s looking at and finds patterns in everything. As an installer you might not find issue with that but an interior designer would find that as a distraction. Random seams is the way to go. I don’t use laminate or vinyl flooring so maybe it’s different rules for those materials.

Started out great then went downhill from there.......like others have said the joints are too close together to be structurally sound. That's the main problem. Love the cancer saw also, cutting the lacquer coating thats on the laminate all the time will cause brain damage in the long run. It's nice the floor he's working on is Brand New construction, square, no obstacles to slow you down. The houses I work on are out of square with registers in the floor and a closet and possibly an off angle wall. This is unrealistic flooring example, makes it look easier than anything you'll ever work on and you can't follow how he installs it. DIY people should steer clear of this video.

I’ve seen all sorts of construction practices in Thailand, on the two houses that I had built and on other people’s houses. The guy here went barefoot but the proper construction shoes in Thailand are flip flops. They tie bamboo together for ladders and scaffolding. They consume an amazing number of m-80 bottles per day to stay awake. They are great workers but if you ask them if they can do plumbing, electrical, or (in my case) landscape sprinkler systems, they will always say “can do,” even if they don’t have the slightest idea of how to do it. That results in having to fire them and bring in a specialist. I have my trees trimmed every year or two and I’m always amazed that they climb the trees barefoot with a machete. I do what I can from the ground with a cordless saws all.

This video should say, this is how not to install a hardwood floor. The only way you'd install it like this, is, if it's not your house and it's for sale by a builder that will only pay you to do it fast. The joints should be offset. If not you'll see the step pattern when the floor is finished. I randomly pick the boards from a few open boxes to mix any color change in the wood.

@@mucsalto8377But the title states it's wood flooring. It should say, wood like. I guess when you don't know the difference, this is how one installs it. Irregardless of what type of flooring it is, you'll still see the step. Why are you doing it so quickly then? Are you in a race? Do it properly, as the directions on the box states. Also, with a poor man's flooring you have to make sure all the boxes were manufactured at the same time. Dye lots can change, so unless you don't do this you may have a variance in the color. Check the date and if they're not all manufactured on the same date, you'll need to open up the boxes that aren't and compare their color.

This is exactly how NOT to install a pre finished floor. Your eye will pick up a repeat pattern as soon as you walk in the room. Joints should be staggered and never closer than 6” to 8” from adjacent row. We call this a staircase pattern. Its the lazy way of doing things. We will make subs re do the job to our customers expectations. Our customers would not accept this job. On the other hand, if you don’t know what it should look like, then its all good. I still would hire him and re train him to our standards. He is fast. Love his steel toe boots. Palmetto Custom Floors.

This guy speed is incredible and looks comfortable doing the job, obviously he does that for a living, I am not a profesional installer but have installed few floors myself, but there are few things that I've noticed that's contrary to what i was told; One is the amount of material waisted, the second is, the stair pattern on the floor is well defined, meaning the joints are not fully locked at the end, maybe that's the design intended, i dont know but i was told that the idea is to make it appear as a seameless surface, not an obvious pattern between the end joints. And the third is, the fact that there is no space in between wall and laminate, which as i understand it, is necessary for the laminate planks to expand and therefore, evading from possible future warping.

As a flooring contractor myself I have to say this video should rather say: "How NOT to install a floor". There are so many things to number that I disagree with, especially with the final product, waste, method and delivery. First off, yeah so many people say he didn't leave expansion gaps, but I have noticed he put some pieces of broken laminate as spacers early on at the start after he finished up a few rows. I still think it is not sufficient and plus that poor cheap underlay was not seamed at the joints 3 inches away from wall and not to mention this is all on concrete where humidity thrives. Secondly, I was almost revolted at the way he started the rows, all in stairs without staggering the joints, Yes he didn't have any ugly joint over joint but visually it looks like a bunch of stairs and if it ever buckles, which it will, the whole floor will come apart along to never ending stair joints. As far as delivery and method, yes he didn't seam very safe or considerate of the boards, I think i even saw him hitting the top of a board with a hammer once. a ton of waste, pieces that can be used to start other rows or at least use the cutout pieces for ends. IN any way, finishing in half an hour doesn't win you a medal. Putting it on youtube for criticism is not any wiser either. People should always hire a professional when it comes to installing floors.

Woaw! I never said what he was doing was perfect, but he'd certainly make me money. And bear in mind we're installing laminate flooring here, it's a shite product. It's only bound to last 3-5 years before its fucked.

Your an idiot if you start him. This floor will break after a couple of weeks let alone 3 -5 years..floating floors need to be staggered for strength since they move. Not only that after it gets humid in there that floor is gonna expand and since he left no room for that it's gonna buckle and all the joints are gonna look like little shit..not to mention it's visually not appealing on top of all the mistakes... I can only imagine the amount of customers you have pissed off...

There is an expansion gap or he could not use the tapping tool. The problem is it's a floating floor and the edges were not glues T?G. Also, the seam spacing should be at least 6", and the symmetrical line (diagonal) is ugly.

@@KenColby87 yeah, I agree. What I was trying to say, each plank should have a minimum 6" overlap, from one seam to the next seam, one line over...hope that makes sense
