Examining the injuries that killed Rosemarkie Man

turiking.co.uk/
Turi is continuing to look for more forensic evidence. She's meeting with leading Forensic Anthropologist Professor Dame Sue Black, Chief Examiner of Rosemarkie man's injuries.
What's happened with Rosemarkie man?
He was a challenge. He had a set of injuries, some that overlapped and some that didn't.
Sue found the first impact on the victim's mouth.
There were fractures to both the lower teeth and the upper teeth and fractures in such a way that the tooth had been sheared. So that's not a punch, that's something much sharper.
One of the upper teeth was found inside his chest cavity.
So, has he inhaled that?
He inhaled it. That tells you he was alive when that happened because we wouldn't have got it in his chest cavity had he been dead.
Next, there was a blunt force to his jaw, but it's also fractured both of these as well, because there's been such an upward motion.
Yeah, Huge forces.
Yeah.
It's likely the third injury was caused when the victim fell backwards and hit his head. But that wasn't the final blow.
They have gone through the left temple and out through the right temple.
Whoever it was, they wanted him dead.
Yeah.
This brutal fourth injury gives telltale signs of the way it was inflicted.
So, in an entry wound, the bone is bevelled on the inside, and on an exit wound it's bevelled on the outside. And when you see the exit wound, in particular, its circular.
Yeah.
So, there's a circular exit wound that says that fits well with, you know, a lance or a spear or something along that sort of line. The chance of anybody getting up after that is extremely slim.
Even so, there's a fifth and final injury.
That comes in on this space here. And it's again, a penetrating injury. So, something has really come down hard into that space.
So clearly, this is a really violent death.
Oh, I don't think there's any doubt about that whatsoever.

I always love finding new footage of Prof. Black. She’s such an amazing, intelligent woman and IMO is one of the finest in her field. Her knowledge is matched only by her empathy for her “patients”. Whether you died yesterday or thousands of years ago, to Sue you’ll always be someone who matters.

In the U.S. the series is called 'Unearthed: Ancient Murder Mysteries', and it's on Curiosity Stream. There are 6 episodes in the series.
