EX FireRed & LeafGreen: Why This Set Is More Influential To The Pokémon TCG Than Most

When Pokemon first announced that fans would be revisiting the great region of Kanto in 2004, fans did not expect the upcoming video game remakes to be accompanied by a new Pokemon TCG expansion. That said, about 2 weeks before the US launch of Pokemon FireRed and Leaf Green for the Game Boy Advanced, we got EX FireRed and LeafGreen, and a new trading card game set that featured fan-favorite Pokemon from the Kanto region, with all the new EX mechanics and art styles in full prominence. In today's video, we take a look at an article from Ludkins that reflects back on the EX-era set, and I'll also add some of my own thoughts on why this set remains one of the most influential in the history of the TCG.

Such an awesome well put together video! completely agree it's a terrific set which for sure gets overshadowed by the gold stars. What interested me in this set back in the day was the three legendary birds with the cracked ice holo. Even though these are actually secret rares in PSA 10 they are reasonably affordable which is curious to me considering the price of a booster pack.

Couldn't agree more, there are always opportunities like the one that you mention, where the price of some of the cards and the packs you can pull them from align in just the right way. I even pulled one of these and graded it a PSA 10, both videos are on the channel! I think I was celebrating my first 100 subs!
Ex fire red leaf green, call of legends, and team magma vs aqua are probley my 3 favorite sets. Super under rated. And unseen forces, cant forget the lugia, espeon, umbreon, and tyranitar ex's. I just pulled a tyranitar ex 2 weeks ago from a single pack of unseen forces i got off ebay for 100$😊

I think there was some history with Charizard ex and why it is underrated. I don't remember exactly but I think it was either mass graded in good condition or a lot of people were speculating on it back then or in the last 10 years.

I know a similar conversation has always marred the legacy of the legendary dog gold star cards. It was revealed that there was someone with a ton of these, and the value, especially relative to the other gold stars, reacted negatively and have sort of remained that way since news originally broke.

@@TheAnalyticGengar the legendary dogs were a bit different since they were stolen, I for sure don't want to put Charizard ex into that category. I just think that they were heavily speculated on etc
