It's nice to see Kia going the sporty performance route, this and the Stinger will be great alternatives to the Germans if priced well.

Just checked and the Optima GT here in NZ is $54k (MYR166K), bloody good price when a Passat 206kw is late 60k and A4 185kw quattro almost 90k. Performance bargain imo

Thanks for this follow up review on this Kia. Similar to this new endeavour is the new Hyundai Elantra Sport which delivers 201hp and comes with new stronger body and multilink independent rear suspension. It will be nice if we can get a review of this car.

2017 Kia Optima GT looks like a premium car. I love it!

Just bought a 2019 Kia Optima LX fe. The flies and it isn't even Turbo. Kia makes really good cars I a was shocked. It's my wife's but you know I took it out on the back roads and opened her up. The driver and collision assistant is awesome. I still love my 2018 Dodge Ram 1500. I told her to take my truck today. Nobody drives my truck. I had to take the Kia out just one more time! Excellent ride and the car is very well sealed. Outside noise all but non existence with windows up. She didn't need the turbo, she has it with the 2.4L engine. So many features with this car.

+Bobby Ang a very good review on this car but i was hoping for you to mention about the safety system built in this car if there is any (like LKAS, LDW, FCW, ACC etc). Nonetheless, a big thumbs up for this beauty.

bobby, u got the same smile whn putting the foot down on S60 306hp. visited Kia today but the test drive car wasnt around. it looks as fun as the S60 but with better interior and 60k cheaper..

Bobby good in depth review I totally agreed with you Kia has put tremendous effort to every aspect on new the Optima GT. I can't wait to see Kia next mass production performance car "Stinger". Do we expect to see the Stinger in Malaysia?

Bobby, well done! been waiting for this review! regarding Optima GT, are there any extra comment on the gearbox? I remember in the video you mention the gearbox is great. but no further elaboration. so, my question is, is the gear shifting seamless? Or is it sluggish? or is it indecisive? +Wilson Lim i think they opt for 6 speed torque converter for reliability. 6DCT is great and fast but in real world, people prefer reliability. So it doesnt have lightning speed shifting, but smooth and decent. Definitely faster than Renault's super slow DCT in the Clio ... and torque converters never jerk or jutter in slow speeds

Bobby Ang yes. I do agree with reliability. I hardly hear any Kia/Hyundai having problems with their 6 speeder. and is it the same gearbox across the range (except Rio with 4 speeder)? if it is the same, surprisingly the same gearbox can handle different amount of torque from different engines. 440nm from the Sorento/Carnival(turbo-diesel) 350nm from this turbo-petrol. brilliant car! Will test it once I have the chance!

+Wilson Lim only a few car makers have the capability to make their own gearboxes. Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai Kia and Nissan.

Do you mean the F10 535i? No challenge the Optima is only 240 is hp. The S4 is 330hp and the 535i is 306hp. But of course the benefits will be new vs old. Surprise spending on maintenance on these high powered used car may not be the taste for everyone

the centre part where the climate control dials and radio dials are so BMW. even the air con vents are straight from the X5

Interior looks much better than it's predecessor however the price is Passat level. Also, northern drivers are more gracious than southern ones, more willing to give way to faster vehicles...

I think it's 5th generation of optima Kia sold in Malaysia,there it's more generation in Korea the earliest technology it's collaboration with Mitsubishi.i was wondering this and BMW 118i M sport witch have more fun to drive.but sadly our local 118i M sport don't have the 170 PS version.and I don't really like the 3 cylinder engine characteristics ,pull quite well in low rev,but suffering when reach high RPM.
