Nixian Channel Description:
We’re lifelong video game enthusiasts with a passion for showing the world how our favorite hobby has grown with us, from individual series to industry-wide retrospectives.
We put significant time and creative effort into each one of our videos, including research, digging into archives, recording voiceovers, and editing. Every video takes as many as 10 hours to produce, because we strive to give our fans consistent, high-quality content.
Our popular “Evolution of...” series goes far beyond simply presenting gameplay footage. We take the time to show how a video game property - its gameplay, character designs, graphics, sound direction, etc. - have evolved over time. We include unique voiceover work on each video to enhance the viewing experience.
People have been playing video games for decades. In that time, we’ve gone from moving a white line up and down to block a moving pixel, to participating in full-fledged, painstakingly rendered real-time battles with people all over the world. We help older gamers look back on how these experiences have changed throughout their lives, and new gamers to understand the broader context of the series they’re playing for the first time today.
The video game medium never stops growing, and we’ll never stop chronicling its evolution.
Editing and voice-over were made by me.

I would agree when it comes to digitized graphics and figting games in the 90's like MK and SF. Although I would say the most revolutionary period was between 95 and 2005. When games started using 3D polygons instead of just pixels. I would say GTA 3 even took it further being the first Open world 3D polygonal game of it's kind. I don't think were surpass that period untill VR becomes the norm.

I agree, I personally have lost that sense of magic that accompanied games in the 90’s and early 2000’s when we were constantly seeing new mechanics and massive advances in graphics with each new title. Now many triple a titles are dumbed down or built to extract more money from players.

This shows just how the types of games have changed. We started with a simple arcade game involving quick thinking and avoiding enemies while trying to get a high score. And we end with a extremely narratively driven adventure in which the game is almost a means of telling the story. I find it interesting that games went from being just games with little to no story to being largely story.

Strategy games, both real time (C&C, Starcraft, etc.) and turn based (HoMM, Civ, Master of Orion) and mixed (X-Com, Total War), adventure games (Monkey Island, the Sierra games), simulations (X-Wing/TIE-Fighter, Wing Commander Saga etc.), driving (any) - and whatever many others I forgot.
