Evolution of Call of Duty Games 2003-2022
Call of Duty Facts and Trivia
Call of Duty is perhaps the world’s most popular game franchise, selling more than any other game in the competition and being one of the most prized possessions that Activision has. The one thing that separates Call of Duty from the rest of the games is that it constantly follows its formulaic design, and its blockbuster stories are always a delight to the senses. So, as the series has evolved so much, here are some things that you never knew about the games!
2003 Call of Duty

Nixian Channel Description:
We’re lifelong video game enthusiasts with a passion for showing the world how our favorite hobby has grown with us, from individual series to industry-wide retrospectives.
We put significant time and creative effort into each one of our videos, including research, digging into archives, recording voiceovers, and editing. Every video takes as many as 10 hours to produce, because we strive to give our fans consistent, high-quality content.
Our popular “Evolution of...” series goes far beyond simply presenting gameplay footage. We take the time to show how a video game property - its gameplay, character designs, graphics, sound direction, etc. - have evolved over time. We include unique voiceover work on each video to enhance the viewing experience.
People have been playing video games for decades. In that time, we’ve gone from moving a white line up and down to block a moving pixel, to participating in full-fledged, painstakingly rendered real-time battles with people all over the world. We help older gamers look back on how these experiences have changed throughout their lives, and new gamers to understand the broader context of the series they’re playing for the first time today.
The video game medium never stops growing, and we’ll never stop chronicling its evolution.
Editing and voice-over were made by me.

I’ll never forget being at a Best Buy and seeing COD2 on display. It came out at the same time that we started seeing plasma tv’s and it looked amazing… especially to this guy who once got excited about getting Pong for Christmas in the 70s.

Call Of Duty 2 will forever hold a special place in my heart because it was the first COD game which I played. For those who don't know, COD2 was a massive hit in my country India and even when Modern Warfare was released in 2007, it didn't overshadow the massive popularity of COD2 in India at all. It was surprising for many but it was what it was. Also, I actually liked COD Ghosts very much. I don't think the game deserved so much hate. I loved the storyline and the incredible graphics. I worked on CoD3, at Treyarch. It was actually a 9 month grueling death march to make a game to match CoD2, that took almost 3 years to make. The pressure was unbelievable from Activision, and we had just spent 9 months crunching to make CoD2: Big Red One, converting PC code and art to fit the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox. We were exhausted and spent after working mandatory 12h days, 6-7 days a week, and they dropped us into CoD3, demanding us a full CoD experience in 3 new Consoles (Playstation3 wasn’t even launched yet, and Nintendo GameCube was weak sauce compared with the Xbox 360 and PS3). So we worked non-stop for 9 months creating it, 6-7 day a week, late into the nights. I still have PTSD from the workload. All the while, gamers were sending us a barrage of hate, telling us Treyarch would never make a game as good as Infinity Ward, creator of CoD2. But we persevered, and I’m very proud of CoD3, with its innovative gameplay, incredible graphics and vehicular multiplayer.

I grew up with the original Call of Duty games and remember how during those times the franchise was seen as one of the greatest in the game industry. The hype for CoD2 and CoD4 was insane, I remember so many guys skipped school on launch day. Sad to see how over the last two decades its reputation has completely tanked, but I guess it was inevitable. Back in the early days there was also more time between releases, which allowed for modding communities and such to form. Developers would even go to forums and teach people how to modify game stuff, write scripts and edit maps. Those days are long gone now.
MW2's online experience was the greatest of all and I'm convinced there will never be anything like it again

@@litrize1 campaigns are simply insanely costly compared to when players generally play through it once. multiplayer is basically an infinite gameplay loop with exponentially less effort (no ai, no cutscenes, no additional voice line recording, mocapping, story etc.) that will keep the players engaged for years. and all of the current time additions (shops, skins, loot, simplified mechanics) capitalize directly on that, multiplayer engagement. they want as much as they can out of it with minimal effort possible obviously. and there's nothing wrong with it if still done well.

I loved playing Call of Duty 3. The story was good on the single player campaign, the online play was awesome, and they released a couple of bonus maps for free. Kill streaks weren’t a thing yet so people actually played the game to win the objective. The lobbies were huge for some of the online game modes. Eventually kill streaks, badges, icons, and gun customization became the focus.
MW1 was the one that blew my mind when I first played it. It was the huge step up of all the titles

CoD1 was really intensive single player experience in that time, it's like neverending battle, really interesting game in that time. Unfortunately, CoD2 was one of the first games with autoheal which damaged future gaming experience for a long time, but it was still really good game. CoD4 was probably the best classic FPS multiplayer game of all time. I don't even remember games after CoD5, it looks all same to me. I think I played Black Ops for the last time, but it didn't take me much and it was constantly crashing, I probably played even that with "no Russian" mission, but that's everything what I remember from that game. Later CoDs? I absolutely don't care about them. I like old FPS games, but today FPS games are full of that online balast and quest systems and gun upgrades and character upgrades and perks......it's everything so annoying in games which were supposed to be FPS, I like RPG games, but I don't want too much RPG elements in FPS games, I just don't like modern FPS games. I think the best FPS games of all time were RTCW, FarCry1, maybe Half Life 2 and such games from that time, I can play these games every year and it's still fun, I can't say that about modern FPS games. It's that complicated and (because of open world and quests) too long that I don't really want to play it again, I mean mainly games like FarCry 3+, it's interesting in first 10 hours, but then? But in 2000, it had to be really interesting to have PS2 or at least PS1, becuase PC hardware was still too expensive and PS was for most of the kids only way how to see some 3D graphics, but that changed in only few years and gaming PCs started be very common, in 2004 or 2005, it was already so visible that PS2 is technology from previous century.
You forgot about COD United Offensive, my dude. It featured tanks and jeeps in multiplayer, plus other game modes. It was my favorite.

I knew Nixan would make a new Call of Duty video. But idk he was going to add Fun Facts tho!. 🤣
I started on COD2 playing during lunch break at school in a local hosted lobby with a dozen mates. To this day, I have never played any of the story modes of any cod game. Gotta say the games I enjoyed the most and have the most memories playing with mates are on Black Ops 3 and Modern Warfare 2019.
The 2003 call of duty was my first gun game i ever played. I was happy they have mobile game on it but i wasnt expecting it to be more like a 1 vs 1 something i wish i could play 2003 version though. Bring back memories
For me the COD 2 was the best... So immersive playing as a soviet soldier.
CoD2 is still probably my favorite in the series. I wish we could get a remake of that. My favorite modern CoD is the original MW2.
I like that the breath of fresh air for Modern Warfare was double tapping unarmed targets
cod I and II are my best childhood memory when it comes to gaming.
if imma be honest, I actually liked ghosts, AW, IW and vanguard. I like the campaigns in the first 3, but the campaign for Vanguard is hollow, I hated it. but the multiplayer for Vanguard is actually really fun.

Cod 2005 is nostalgia for me
Nicely explained
I have been playing CoD since my step parent brought his PC to my house when I was 11 years old. I remember when CoD 2 had 6 discs to install the game and I joined a hardcore modded servers clan and got my skills really honed as a M&K player. The fun and good old days always to me 😢😌

It shows that the franchise tried to be liked every year(like returning to the WW2 in between modern ones), regardless of how terrible the quality falls. I still like the old ones.
Thanks for the info.

Nothing will ever beat the sound effects of call of duty 2. It literally made you feel like you were at war with a battle going on. Now a days, you can tell the actors are screaming in a quiet recording booth.

Time sure flies, it feels like it was just a couple of months ago that i as a 16 year old sat and played CoD 2. Soon we'll all be in the ground.
ngl cod games 2003 to 2017 are just so good and they made my day everytime i play it, and i also enjoy the campaigns
As much as people like to hate on Call of duty, they’re still one of the leading innovations to the FPS genre as remember they were one of the first to popularise 3D iron sights in games.

That's So Cool i love Cod!
Funny how after all these years I remember those scenes from CoD and CoD 2.
I played all the earlier games upto black ops and loved them. Then I got out of gaming after my son was born. When he was old enough to start playing I sat down to watch the later games and it wasn’t the same. Sure the graphics were much cleaner but it lost all its grit. I grew up playing the original flashpoint endlessly so you can imagine what I’m used to.

Call of duty 3 was the start for me. The multiplayer, the maps & the ''Medic!'' i was in a french clan (UTM) who had some of the best players in the world in on PS3. Playing on game battles and such. The days!
@miked1869

Agreed. I still dig out Call of Duty 3 occasionally. The last time I did (admittedly quite a while ago now) there were still enough people playing it to populate multiplayer games. And you're right, there's a lot of nostalgia in the sound: "Medic!" "Retrieve our flag!" "The enemy's captured our flag!" Also the accompanying musical cues. My favourite map was Eder Dam - such a great mix of action. I used to love riding the motorcycle and sidecar across the gap in the bridge - and sniping at other people who were doing it! Good times.
All call of duty games have special place in my heart
Best CODs ever made: -United Offensive -World at War -Modern Warfare -Modern Warfare 2 -Black Ops I played also others but these are gold piece of history. Phenomenal games, which have a special place in my heart. I completed them many times. And when I hear the soundtrack of Modern Warfare 2 I literally cry... That was my whole childhood

We need do after Advenced Warfare Remastered and Sequel.
These games are timeless classics.
i still play the second COD from time to time, I used to play the campaign when I was a kid
The best Call Of Duty for my opinion: 1. Call Of Duty (2003) 2. Call Of Duty 2 3. Call Of Duty: World At War 4. Call Of Duty: World War 2 (26.05.22; 01:12)

Call of Duty Roads to Victory is one of my favorite game in PSP. So nostalgic.
Next evolution of Medal of Honor/Brothers In Arms/Battlefield
To me, one of my favorites will be advanced warfare idk, i liked it a lot, and the campaing where you upgraded yourself after every mision, it was really nice And that you could literally become skorpion and kill those mechas like a fricking god
Most of the 'evolution in games' vedios generally don't have commentary But the voice over just makes it more engaging.

Because at that time people cared more about the multiplayer than the campaing,so theres that situation of: Multiplayer:Bad,so the entire game is bad! And also,it comes after bo2,so they set the expectatives on the hights.
