With taking cover, I think the reason R* made it so only Niko could do cool cover animations is because of his backstory. He was in the military so he most likely learnt how to take proper cover and how to do so. In GTA 5 the characters there are most likely thought out as they just want to get to cover no need for cool, fancy shit. Then again that's just a theory and I could be 100% wrong, but it makes sense!

I remember GTA Vice City's crouching mechanic and finding it useful as a kid, San Andreas' mobility while crouched behind cover was awesome, GTA 4 suck me into the action and made my firefights feel dangerous, and GTA 5's made me feel like a fun action movie... all different flavors of cover over the years

A couple of things to point out about GTA V's cover logic: 1. Your character can perform a unique cover swap animation if two bits of cover are parallel to each other and are slightly far between each other (e.g. doorways, boxes, parked cars.) To do this: you must take cover, then move your character in the direction of the cover you want to move to, then while still holding in the same direction (I think when your character starts doing the peaking animation), press the take cover button again. 2. You can even fire off your gun while cover swapping by shooting your gun while the animation is playing 3. Peaking is not entirely useless in GTA V, you can use it to take more time in accurately aiming your reticle at enemies without having to expose yourself unnecessarily, especially if they're constantly ducking in and out of cover (got this one from one of DarkViperAu's Facts and Glitches eps.)

Fun fact: cover blindfire in the pc version of GTA 4 (mouse specifically) is op. It has the same precision when you're peeking or aiming with right click so that makes the game easier. Of course in console or plugging a controller on pc will make the blindfire less accurate as intended to be.

I was ALWAYS disappointed that the slide-and-roll animations got cut from 4 to 5. It was so super neat and fun to pull off to me. The first thing I noticed was when the first firefight broke out at the beginning of GTA 5. Hopefully, 6 can have more dynamic cover mechanics. Check out the ( very sadly ) canceled Eight Days for PS3 and its cover/ traversal mechanics. It'd be super dope if GTA 6 had that to always have firefights that feel flashy and spiced up. Or even each character has a specific animation tailored just for them!

One aspect of cover blind fire that i like in gta 5 is that there is no crosshair while you are shooting blind whereas it is present in gta 4. So, in a sense even if you are firing blind in gta 4 you always know where your round is going to hit but it is not so in gta 5 which imo is a nice detail.

In GTA 4, it is technically possible to peek out of cover. You just have to hold the aim button to do so, but Niko/Johnny/Luis won’t stick their head out as much as Michael/Franklin/Trevor.

Cover animation like like the roll etc. Are present in GTA IV but not v but it actually makes sense cause niko was a soldier he could pull those moves because he was trained unlike Franklin Micheal and Trevor

You forgot to mention the differences between blind fire in IV and V! It's accurate as hell in GTA IV because you can still see the crosshair and the bullets go exactly where you shoot. It makes combat stupidly easy in that game. In GTA V, there's no crosshair while blindfiring and also you accuracy will be off. You kinda have to peek or leave cover to be accurate. It makes combat more challenging than IV

GTA IV's gunfire is different when you play with a keyboard/mouse or controller/console. There's that bullet spread thing when you play it PS3/XBOX or on PC with a controller. They won't easily hit the target like how it does with a keyboard.

GTA IV was way ahead of it's time. A 2008 game that has better details and mechanics than many modern games.

ENXGMA's videos are always so entertaining to watch. His editing style has gotten so much better over the past few years. And that soundtrack is iconic to this channel.

Peeking in GTA V is very useful. Not many people know that we can aim by using peeking, and then press the blind fire, the aim will go directly to you last peeking position.

@@AlexStinsonPk 3 and VC same graphics and lack of combat evolution but not the next ones, if you actually played right and progressed everything in them, graphics, sound effects evolved and so we're grappling and stealth introduce. By the time GTA 4 came in 2008 other series like Fallout 3 were way ahead. And I care about features and map diversity than improved graphics.

I think peeking does have a meaning, like you can enhance the accuracy of your blind fire shooting by peeking before doing it. So you don't have to get out of cover to head-shoot an enemy.

6:37 Peeking while holding a weapon allows you to see the reticle without making yourself vulnerable. While in cover, shooting blindly, shooting while peeking and shooting while aiming all have different effects.

Idk why Rockstar never brought over the slide-to-cover animations of IV to V. It felt like a downgrade tbh =/
