Interestingly i had exactly the opposite feeling about the two versions... 😅 I think the northStar version is much more in depth with the theme and it transmits very well the feeling of survival and struggle, in particular with (fairly predictable) moments of plenty and scarcity of food, fuelling the competition between species, sometimes even your own! You can also change your traits to adapt to new needs, you can control population and body size trying to get more points but then learning that you have to be careful or you'll be without food, etc... there is so much more about the topic. instead the new game feels like a watered down version that is just a general card-battle game which only marginally touches the theme of the evolution.

Oh my this is an amazing comparison video thanks so much for this! I have never played the evolution series and hence wondering which one to get - so perfect video for me! However, after seeing the comparison I still think the original North Star one seems better. I guess for playtime issue you can just remove some cards at random from the draw deck so that it won’t take forever to finish the game - just like we did for dominant species marine… I think the playtime issue with original game was a design flaw as all players count use same number of cards so for a two players games it may take 2 hours to complete whereas for 5 players it may be 50 mins

Thank you for confirming that they're of the same series as the other Evolution game. (The info at my friendly local gaming store was somewhat lacking.)

You can co-op a solo game to teach also to kids also. Also I love the video and your unboxing too, keep up the sterling work.

Are they definitely from the same series? They're from different games companies?

In the northStar version they brought in an extra game designer who reworked the gameplay collaborating with the other 2 designers (who are the ones that created the other versions).

How do you feel about the point scoring happening at the end of the game? Doesn't it make the early game rounds feel pointless? (no pun intended)

Thank you for watching and taking the time to ask. I don't miss it as it adds a different tension of "will my specie(s) make it to the last epoch?" I'm sure you could play with feeding points as a variant if you add in the tokens from the other game to help keep track.
