    Is this a good game for my 6 year old if she is an avid gamer?

  • @GamesRuleDoctor
    @GamesRuleDoctor2 күн бұрын

    It would depend on how comfortable she is with worker placement, pattern building, and open drafting games. Building the honeycomb and placing bee workers to trigger economic benefits can be challenging to play well competitively. Taken on their own, a 6 year old can handle each mechanic. It is the combination of ALL these mechanics that increases the game's complexity. With adults, I would not play this game if the adult could not handle Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, Settlers, Pandemic, Stone Age, Wingspan, or Splendor. Everdell, Istanbul, and Five Tribes are close in complexity.

    The treasure map gives you 1 coin at the end of your turn, not end of the game.

    CORRECTION: at 3:40 a player will not immediately lose BUT a player will lose who has at least 3 Gunners at the end of the game. This gives a player time to flip a Gunner over with a Monkey before the game ends. Also the Treasure Map generates ONE coin after EACH turn a player is possession of the map.

    The last pirate game I played was Extraordinary Adventures : Pirates which is a fun racing game--the art is cartoony like this one. I like that the tiles in this game are double-sided, and are really varied, but I feel like it would be over too quickly, and that's a bummer.😂 It does look fun, though!

    How I understood the rules the victim can not check their line of sight until they are all done moving, so if they move for both actions then only after the second movement if they only move in one action then they could check after that move. Thoughts?

  • @GamesRuleDoctor
    @GamesRuleDoctorАй бұрын

    Thank s for watching and taking the time to ask. According to page 4, you check LOS in a straight line after EACH "Move [up to] 4 spaces" or "'Move through a window" action. NOTE: you must decide facing before checking LOS. You MUST always take two actions and complete the first one before taking the second one. Actions can be repeated.

  • @crystalnordeen4322
    @crystalnordeen4322Ай бұрын

    @@GamesRuleDoctor after reading it again it makes since. On that same page in bold letters it mentions LOS is not checked during movement and I thought it was saying it can only be checked after both movements if you used both actions to move 8.

    Thank you for this playthrough! I keep reading how easy the rules are, but the rulebook isn't straightforward about what a round looks like from beginning to end, and important rules are scattered, instead of being on one page. I was having difficulty learning how to play! I appreciate your reasoning behind playing the co-op variant and leaving out Cthulhu who might be too extreme to battle for only 2 player games. I'd rather enjoy playing the game so that I'll want to replay it--house rules are always welcome. I gave away Robinson Crusoe due to the difficulty level sucking the soul out of game night!😂

    The designer, Alan Moon, has weighed in on this: "You can claim a newly drawn ticket immediately. You can do it several times if you are lucky, and even win the game this way" ; i.e., you immediately put it down and redraw where it's possible to draw another completed ticket... 12th post here boardgamegeek.com/thread/1623382/picking-up-a-ticket-that-is-already-completed

    Interestingly i had exactly the opposite feeling about the two versions... 😅 I think the northStar version is much more in depth with the theme and it transmits very well the feeling of survival and struggle, in particular with (fairly predictable) moments of plenty and scarcity of food, fuelling the competition between species, sometimes even your own! You can also change your traits to adapt to new needs, you can control population and body size trying to get more points but then learning that you have to be careful or you'll be without food, etc... there is so much more about the topic. instead the new game feels like a watered down version that is just a general card-battle game which only marginally touches the theme of the evolution.

The first time you PASS, it gets discarded. And you are correct about the Rest Phase, it always happens after a room is Resolved.
