Evolution and Natural Selection - GCSE Biology (9-1)

This video is for Edexcel IGCSE Biology 9-1 but is relevant for many GCSE Biology courses. It covers these specific objectives from the syllabus
3.38 Explain Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection.
3.39 Understand how resistance to antibiotics can increase in bacterial populations, and appreciate how such an increase can lead to infections being difficult to control.
You can download a teaching PowerPoint for this topic here: www.mrexham.com/3-reproductio...
Or one for the whole course here: www.mrexham.com/store/p118/Ul...
I also have a TES Shop here: www.tes.com/teaching-resource...

antibiotic resistant bacteria has a smaller genome size than its ancestors. you said evolution can answer all questions, but why can it not answer this?

evolution doesn't necessarily need new genes to be observed. Evolution is observed as a change and adaptation, not as an addition. In fact most genes have existed before and a mutation has altered them or developmentaly have been deployed elsewhere (to other processes or structures). Also, adaptation can happen via the mechanism of natural selection (what we call as a whole evolution) while an organsim loses genes or a structure etc. this is still evolution. Mass of DNA, or how large or small a genome is doesn't infer how complex an organsim is. To understand all of these on a deeper level you would need to study molecular evolution which is not GCSE or A level material. But I hope I helped a bit. @@jounisuninen @patrickderp1044
