Thanks Tim!!! I seriously appreciate this video!!! I found the link in the hull truth forum. Chalk me up as another 3 finger salute guy. I'm taking the emm off today to send to Chet per all of your advice in the forum. Being able to find this kind of information and videos is absolutely priceless! I just bought my first boat and I'd be completely lost right now without you guys.

Watch this video too (shows how to install an EMM): kzread.info/dash/bejne/dHd7z86Dg86YdMY.html Here is the thread that discusses the reason why the EMM needed to be removed: www.thehulltruth.com/boating-forum/996809-evinrude-ficht-intermittent-no-start-solved-3.html The key excerpt is below: I have a 2002 225HP Ficht outboard on the boat I bought last year. It ran great for the first couple months. Then, on multiple successive trips, just died each time. No warning, motor simply shuts off and boat coasts to a halt. Happened at low RPMs (in the channel back to the marina) and then happened twice at cruising speed (about 24knots) out on the river. Each time, no warning lights would show, no alarm--motor just stops. Each time waited about 7 minutes, and motor restarts as if nothing had happened. Had a guy (local Evinrude expert) come look at it--didn't see any fault or engine codes. Did notice a "no oil" fault from very early in the motor's life. Replaced a worn throttle bushing. No problems for the rest of the season (another two dozen trips or so). Now this year, I put the boat back in the water, started up fine and ran great for about a half dozen trips, then, same problem on two successive trips. And then the kicker was last weekend--motor died at 24knots in the main channel, but three warning lights came on steady (not blinking)--"no oil" "check engine" "hot water"--referred to in this thread above as three-finger salute. Removed cowl, tilted motors, checked water intakes (were clear), added oil, and waited. Every time I would turn the key one position to restart, the self-check would perform, and then the three lights would come on steady. I did notice that gradually over the course of the 60 minutes or so I was sitting there (at anchor) that the amount of delay between the self-checking completing (all four lights come on, blink and sound, and go off), and the "three finger salute" would increase. Got to the point where the delay was roughly a full second. By then I called for a tow. Next morning, motor started up fine as if nothing had happened. Yesterday, took the boat out and ran around for about an hour, no problem, came back in to the gas dock, fueled, went to start and --nothing at all, just the three finger salute. Removed the cowling, tilted the motor out of the water, waited 15 minutes, and boat started fine and made it back to the slip. I plan to call DFI on Tuesday. This thread suggests a number of possible solutions--cooling lines to EMM; stop/ign relay replacement; neutral switch on the binnacle mount; bad stator. I'll see what DFI says, but given a comment I read about historical heat issues potentially causing problems later (remember "no oil" fault code from years ago) and the three warning lights, I'm leaning towards thinking this is a EMM issue. I'll repost when I have more info.
