Being a certified outboard tech, I can tell you that the E tecs do eat the 4 strokes for lunch. Like ALL outboards, they have their glitches. But the new G2's will put the 4 stroke- 2 stroke debate to rest. Sorry to say I have seen, ran and serviced them all. The Evinrudes are truly amazing motors.

Hi James, wondering if you have any advice for us. A month ago we purchased a boat with a 2008 but was bought in May 2009 brand new Etech 115 hp Evinrude it looks spotless. The first time we took it out at first it went full speed then it bogged down and we had to crawl back to the dock. We purchased a kit for the exhaust valve to keep it open and we took it out again and the same thing happened . The valve is still open and holding fine. But we cannot use the boat. Any idea Please. thank you James

6 years later they are out of production. Looks like the 4 strokes are their lunch.
I can watch that all day.
That auto trim is cool,It makes the outboard a surface drive when the boat planes taking the strain off the engine and boosting the rpm where the engine generates it's horsepower.
great vid! sounds and looks like a bad ass engine!
always liked the 4 cylinder engines, nice video
I think the flex you see is just coming from the GoPro camera mount - those Stacer transoms are rock solid
congratulations for the video, outstanding
the best 2stroke money can buy yet we have the worst dealer in Singapore. evinrude the sweetest 2stroke u can find in the world.
Very Beautiful! I liked more, congratulations!
love this sound..
If the motor is tilted down the front will get pushed down to the water, if you tilt it up the boat will get a lift and run smoother (quicker) and more eqonomical.
Yeah I think the fuel consumption is pretty good for what it does. It uses nothing when trolling and the gauges say its using about 36 litres /hr at WOT however I've travelled over 110kms at between 5000 and 5500 rpm and it only used around 50 litres of fuel and that's starting with a full tank (say 80 litres) and 4 adults on board plus gear. Its a very strong 115 (and its been reliable).
힘이 좋네요 Very nice picture
I believe the Fitch motors had problems as did a few early Etecs. I no longer own this one but I know who does and it is still fine (it has less than 150hrs). From my experience and speaking to friends who work in the industry Bombardier has them pretty well sorted now. I would not have any problem buying another one.

It's a shame that both Johnson and Evinrude outboard's aren't made anymore. My family boat has a 1996 Johnson 60hp on it, and it has been good the entire time we've owned it.
I'm in love! You sent this machine very well! The Americans are to be congratulated!

@@ronygarcia1986 My 1947 Evinrude was made in Peterborough Ontario Canada. Still runs. Evinrude sold out a long time ago to OMC as well as Johnson. Hence they are identical motors since the 1970s. Then Bombardier took over OMC and eventually dropped Evinrude production as the Etech line never seemed to do as well as it should have, and Yamaha won the day Or something like that.

Hi Simon, I saw so many of boat driver video and found your video shows how smooth your boats, both E-tec or Mercury your boat setup should be really nice enough to going so fast! May I know what is the fuel consumption for E-tec 115HO and Mercury four stroke 150 at the best cruising speed? Thanks a lot.
A 20P would definitely be much better for top end however I use it quite a bit for skiiing. I tried a 19P Rouge prop (4 blade) however it didn't pull hard enough out of the hole.
Espetáculo!
wow !!!!
I love the smell of 2stroke in the morning...
Evinrude E-Tecs are the best engine on the market - they have more torque and top end power, while being lighter than comparable 4-strokes. The old carborated 2-strokes were dirty, which is why 4-strokes became popular. But now the new direct injected Etec 2-strokes are even cleaner than the 4-strokes, with less maintenance! They really are the best of both worlds - I love my Etec and will never buy a 4-stroke again.

John B BRP bought bankrupt Evinrude from OMC. These engines you are pushing are 1/4 century old engines that BRP is slowly losing ground to modern engines that are becoming as light or lighter, faster, quieter, and require no oil tank and mixing. It just the market son and face it. Mercury and Yamaha are riding what is left of their great 2 strokes with very little resources put on new development. BRP will have to give up on these relics and invest in new engines or the market will leave them. I guess these engines will join wagon wheels and phone booths. You probably know this but are stuck with one of these things. Keep your chin up, Yamaha and Mercury dealers may take a trade.

The Fitch were a disaster, it was a direct injected, however they had a design flaw, the injector system was made for the engine, now with the Etec, they made the engine for the Injection system, 2 stroke for power, 4 stroke for reliablity.
wow, the arse end of that boat flexes like rolf harris's floppy board. I didn't realise transoms moved so much under power
Please correct me if I am wrong (sorry if it came up already): The 115 HO is a 130 with "115 HO" painted on the side of it. I've always loved Evinrude, I learned to Ski behind my Dad's old 120 Looper. Nice video, motor sounds awesome and goes like stink!

Hi there. Yes I believe they are however if you speak to an Evinrude person they say they are different outputs as they sell a HO as being the top end of the allowable output which I think is the rated horsepower +/-10% so a 115hp can be up to but no more than 126hp - not 130hp but I couldn't imagine them reengineering the output for 4hp.
@blackvr4tt
8 жыл бұрын
+Daxon21 Yes the HO is at the top end of the +10% allowable output but it also has the Lighting Gearcase which has less drag and gives you a little more top end speed.
how much did the engine cost brand new im looking into an engine and i hear there really fast lots of torque and really good for the environment
Evinrude brings 2 stroke back on the market :)
Its trimmed to 90-95% on the gauge which is about as far as it will trim while moving
I have 115 HO also. Gear ratio is 2,25:1 (mine is X long). Theoretical speed using 17p prop and 6000 RPM is 69, Minus 3% slip it be 67 - 66 kmph. So theoretically impossible is to have 76 :) I have VIPER 19p and max speed is 69 kmph
badass motor. V4s are the best

Why do you trim the motor up does it give it more power ?
It wasn't running hot as it runs cooler at WOT than it does at idle. You normally get steam out the back of it as I believe the cooling water runs through or around some hot bits of the exhaust. Maybe someone who knows can add a comment to confirm the exact reason.
love the sound! that will put me to sleep.....mmmmmmmm
Yeah not sure?, it was done on a GoPro 2 which was hard mounted to a rail on the side of the boat with a GoPro handlebar mount, The rail is solid so I'm figuring its the mount that was moving

Hey Simon. How would you rate this engine against the Merc 150 fourstroke you had for skiing. (I'm looking at a 530 Quintrex which would mean marine surveyor rerating for the Merc 150 (an losing the hull warranty)
@SimonH2O
7 жыл бұрын
The Hawkins Crew ! I'd say they were both similar for pulling skiers. I know of a 530 that had a 140 Suzuki fitted to it and was re surveyed however the no Hull warranty would be a concern and could hurt resale. Have you considered an Etec G1 135 HO V6? It's effectively a 150hp motor and can be supplied fully warranted by Telwater as a Boat Motors Trailer package. They're a strong motor for skiing (bit noiser than the Merc) although it's a well proven design. Alternatively you could go the 135 4 stroke Merc (detuned 150) which should be similar to the 150 Merc for bottom end however it won't be as strong down low as the 135HO ETEC.

Thanks. Simon. I know the the 530 Top Ender is 135 rated but all the other 530's are 130 rated. when I spoke to them a couple of years ago my dealer said Telwater wouldn't budge. I'm now freshly boatless, so I'll have to have a firm word to them today.
@SimonH2O

The Hawkins Crew ! yeah since Telwater took over the distribution of Evinrude in Australia they have modified some of their boats HP ratings to better align with Evinrudes product range. I see the 530 Bowrider is now rated to 135hp so you might be okay depending on which boat you're after. Good luck with it all! 👍

Black Bark Biker from memory that was steam as the midsection heats up when run hard and that's just what happens when it gets dunked in cold water - I've seen alot of engines do it.
Motor too low. Good way to brake that transom. When you put 25" motor on a 20" transom. Even with extension plate it's still too low. Stress on that transom is huge, I hope it's not a customers boat
