I'm so glad American people in '80 and '84 thought otherwise. Also, to the guy who said communism is not a big deal: clearly, you have never lived under a communist regime. I, as a Hungarian, would like to thank Ronald Reagan for everything he did to defeat the evil empire. God bless Ronald Reagan and every true Christian in the United States.

Obama became proud to be "an American" for the first time (and only time) when he was first elected to the presidency. Reagan was always proud and always an American. Big difference.

wrothacker4 The love wasn't universal. Some of understood, even then, that what he was accomplishing was the beginning of the end. The downhill slide he set us on continues. Up until GWB knocked him out of the position, Reagan was my most loathed President in my lifetime of six decades. That's right, Reagan was even WORSE than GWB ... in a number of ways. Google 'reagan worse than bush', read. What gets me is all of the dreamy eyed right wing radicals today, pining for the glory days of their Party ... but who would label Reagan as a Liberal today. If he were to run for the Presidency today they'd laugh him out of town.

Well I worked at the same company in the oil and gas industry for 30 years before taking early retirement 18 years ago. I've got a comfortable home and retirement so as far as I'm concerned things have worked out fine for me. I don't doubt what you say about today's people, but most didn't live through that era of double digit inflation and unemployment, gas lines and 444 days of hostages that his presidency came off of. We had a good economy once again and felt proud of America. If people don't like that, they can go to hell.

God forbid a President give this speech today, he will be torchered by the public & it wouldn't be aired by the Media. Our country needs GOD more than ever right now and people are fighting so hard to take it out. Our founding fathers based many of our rights on GOD, the father of Abraham, Isaac, Moses & Christ. Let's Pray for this country!!

Don't despair. As Carter led to the election of RR, so will Obama lead to another great conservative President. It is reasonable to argue that RR's presidency was not and did not live up to his ideological ideas, but he was more than an idea. He was in essence the FUTURE OF THE NATION.

“There are certain truths which stand out so openly on the roadsides of life, as it were, that every passer-by may see them. Yet, because of their obviousness, the general run of people disregard such truths or at least they do not make them the object of any concious knowledge. People are so bliend to some of the simplest facts in everyday life that they are highly surprised when somebody calls attention to what everybody ought to know.”

That was a great speech. Ronald Reagan was the greatest leader of the 20th century, much greater than Churchill, Roosevelt, Eisenhower. Those mentioned were weak and let Stalin spread Communism in the heart and Eastern part of Europe. Ronald Reagan made the Communism collapse. For East-Europeans, in particular, Ronald Reagan is a hero: He released them from the Communism slavery. Credit for this should also take the British premier Margaret Thatcher, the Pope John Paul the 2nd, and in a lesser degree, Michael Gorbachev.
