There's a bigger focus on rehabilitation than punishment. We don't use prisons as slave labour camps so there's less incentive to keep people locked up indefinitely. (In the uk anyway). There are also allegations of sexual abuse that was not allowed to be brought up in court, and at some point during the whole thing, she said something along the lines of- "I thought if I killed her, I could be her" as in, literally become Rachel, turn into her, and live her life where Caroline thought she would feel the love, happiness, human connection, etc that she did not previously feel. @@peachsangria8704 right! And I totally get that it can cause problems but a pattern starts to get established most the times. What I'm saying is when the police have parents coming to them saying that their child is gone and then they do their jobs and interview ppl and all get told the same thing basically, that the child in question is NOT a flight risk or exhibiting questionable behavior that would show probable cause for them to just take off. If a kid isn't being abused... Enough ppl will say as much... Just like if a kid is being abused, not every adult that knows about it will let it fly.... My 4th grade teacher certainly didn't! I've heard of cases where the parents are pleading for help bc their kid is dependent on some medication that they KNOW keeps them alive and they don't have it, only to be told by the cops that they STILL think the kid just took off w/out it.... Shit is out of control and it's hella sad and a big part of the problem is that many parents DO use the cops as a threat and then they establish a troubled household and yada yada yada but the kid never gets any help they need...glad u survived and made it out tho! I'm sure ur a hella strong individual bc of the shit u went thru as a child and young adult

The police clutching at straws and the leniency of the sentence is infuriating, but not as infuriating as actually knowing that their are batshit crazy people out in world who actually sit and contemplate murders like this, she’s an absolute danger to society, the fact that she’s free and many like her is sickening.

She shouldn't be out. Another kick in the guts for the parents. I remember when it happened and live close by and didn't even know she got out.

Lenient, i have never heard anyone speak about our 'justice' system so politely... We call it many things, usually with profanity which suits it well. Cheers from 🇦🇺

Jealousy is one of the most strongest human emotions and can drive so many to do things they never felt they're capable of doing! Such a lovely young lady taken way way to soon from this world and MONSTER SET FREE to maybe do it all over again and maybe this time she will get away with it. BE WARNED CAROLINE Isn't DONE YET 😉 sleep with one eye open 🤔🤷

First time I heard about this story was from the movie In Her Skin. So horribly sad and haunting story. They should have never let Carolina out of prison.

There should be repercussions for those GROSSLY negligent “law enforcement officers” because the parents had many valid reasons to believe foul play was involved with the missing case of their daughter, but these “cops” sat around on their asses. Disgraceful.

In the video at approx 16:40 you mention that the murderer wanted to move to "nearby Byron Bay". Just letting you know that Byron is about 1700km away from Melbourne. About the same distance as Tallahassee to New York City. So its not really "nearby".

The mental torture the parents went through must've been hell. The police's incompetency was astonishing, they literally failed to do the most basic procedures for a missing, and a child at that. The entire police force should be reformed!!

Some countries' punishments are WAY too lenient when it comes to violent crimes, sexual assault and 1st degree murder! Sadly, including my own (Denmark). While I'm not for death penalty, I say let those who have deliberately ruined or taken a life rot in jail for the rest of their miserable, pathetic existence!
