    Don't worry most art schools are like this. Being in art school, I find myself researching on my own and learning from peers more than lecturers ever teach you. Don't be afraid to ask around and look online to improve yourself! In the end, they let you try figure everything by yourself, so that you can develop your own skills and style without them having any influence and control on you.

    I've had art as an extra class for a few years now (science students don't have it by default), and my teachers always emphasized more on oil painting techniques. So what that means is us students would have to learn other mediums on our own, or not learn at all :v

  • @DrocoYEET

    @DrocoYEET

    I literally just learnt this in science a week ago. Like different H and B pencils have different amounts of graphite and clay. The more graphite means a darker tone. For example, a 4B pencil has 79% graphite and 15% clay, compared to a 4H pencil with a 55% graphite and 39% clay. *Note that most pencils have a 5% wax content.

    I do a lot of graphite and sketches and I always use a 2H pencil for my outlines on everything. It's light and doesn't really smudge, so I can ink over it for my watercolors or put colored pencil over them and they don't get all over everything else.

But 15 years later I now have such a large swath of art skills and a collection of art supplies so big I just use whatever I pick up off my work table. Or the first pencil that rolls forward in my drawer, even if it's a colored one.

    Got these pencils at an exchange gift with a good quality color pencils. I did notice this (never tried to blend it though) and it was pretty cool to have these as a beginner. Probably best gifts I had.
