Today I found out a cool way to make a comic character that’s very exaggerated! You sketch out the general shape of the face, then one by one close your eyes and draw a part of the face, then open your eyes, rinse and repeat with other parts of the face. This helps me get a characters general idea and personality figured out, and it’s very fun!

@@astrobookwormsinger super quick, small (generally) sketches that focus heavily on composition and rough shapes. They're like the fastest way to get an idea out of your head and onto paper before you commit to anything.

They kind of seem like a less formal version of something I was taught in design and technology at school. There was an acronym with each letter corresponding to a different modification you had to make for one of your initial ideas before you decided on your final design.

The "small doodles" are better than anything I ever did in my life 💀
Thats a great tip, i like how gestalt psychology comes to play here. I mean we see the world in holistic perspective anyways, so anything can be taken as an example. But i really like this example, so clear-cut.

"Thumbnails only take about a minute to do". Me: *spends an hour*
@Takapon218
Жыл бұрын
Ok 1.) FBI!? 2.) stop spending time on thumbnails. Thumbnails =\= sketches, they should be quick and rough just to get compositional aspects down, experiment, and they're generally small. Whereas a sketch can be your actual piece's size and should be about getting the idea you've figured out in your thumbnail a lot more refined. Generally you want idea -> thumbnails -> sketch -> finished piece, but your flow may vary. Some people do sketch -> idea -> thumbnail -> sketch -> finish (which is what happened here) which is totally fine. Hell you might even do idea -> sketch -> finish, hate it, thumbnail -> sketch -> idea -> thumbnail -> sketch -> finish 😉 It's all about the process, but utilize thumbnails more efficiently and stop wasting time on them. You'll be a better artist for it!

Thumbnails are the first thing my graphic design professor taught us in the course. Not only good for personal doodles, but also extremely helpful for commissions when trying to communicate thoughts between the artist and client!! I love this man.

*my brain at 3am* : “Don’t be afraid to explore your negative space”
I am an elementary art teacher and teaching positive and negative space is always a challenge, especially when trying to explain the terminology and the differences between the two. Love the way you worded your explanation. Also, righteous sketches.
I am obsessed with these small videos these are so helpful ❤️
I love the horizontal one
My former art teacher taught me this years ago and I still use it! It definitely works wonders. Great work man :)
This channel is an integral part of my art improving.
the fact that a doodle can turn into such a good drawing
I learned about thumb nails in an art class in college and they seriously help so much!! Especially when you’re stuck. You can mess around with composition before putting in all the work on a full-size piece and realizing that you don’t like the placement of something.
Thank you for helping me understand what thumbnails are
I don’t know where you received your training or if you are entirely self taught but your discipline is admirable and your practices are recipes for success. Art teacher here, love the promoting of thumbnail sketches before committing to the drawing :-) it saves a lot of time and money to think on paper in the form of drawing or painting :-) one way that I loosened up was by only using a fudé brush and india ink. It’s hard to get technical with those two lol
Your tips are so helpful honestly I've learned so much from you :D
This is super helpful, especially since I wanted to create large pieces of art. Going small, creating many pieces and then choosing the right one, this way is helpful for me.
One of my favorites you give the best tips !
You inspired me to purchase the zebra brush pens, and thank you! I love doing manga art and anime and this comes in really handy
Your tips are the best art tips. Really thanks
I saw this video around when I’m learning negative and positive space in my art class lol
thumbnails are massively underrated imo
Really loved the horizontal piece
That's why drawing my own mandalas are so satisfying because your main job is to fill negative space.
Thumbnails and quarter roughs are probably the things that helped me most as an artist. It REALLY helps. Especially when having others give you feedback.
for anyone still wondering, its like when you cut out a heart shape in a paper, unfold the paper and the heart is the negative space.
The horizontal one is my love😍
Your videos always make me want to draw. You have an awesome art style. Love the channel
They took doodling to another level.
Looove the horizontal one. 😍
Awesome, the last one is my favorite one ❤❤❤❤
Love this. It works for writing too. If you have an idea but aren't sure what direction to take it, give it several wildly different outlines or summaries and you'll start to get a feel for where the story wants to go.
It’s been two years and I still found it on my recommended page
been having doubts about my art recently, and I just want to let you know how much your channel has been helping me and break out of that mindset :) ❤️
So happy I just found ur channel as a newer artist, subbed!
Thank you for this advice. It will help me immensely in future with my art.
The last one was so good!
Been drawing for as long as I have and I'm still learning seemingly obvious things like you can make a sketch of a sketch. That's gonna my life easier lol
Wow, thanks for showing us this! Your good at art

This is very use ful!! Never would of thought of this

This hint really made me better Thx dude
Thanks, this is a really interesting way to think about drawing. Love it
OMG your drawings are soooo amazing. You help me out alot during my depression!!! 😀😀😀😀 Thanks!!!
This actually helped me a lot because right now I am experiencing major art block, and this gave me ideas. Thanks!
Something I never thought of doing, and definitely, for sure, it's going to help me. Many thanks, my dude
I love these, I’m an artist, but not with art (drawing, painting etc) instead with writing, and these videos give me inspiration to write.
Thank you for teaching me this✨✨✨

I liked seeing a video focused on sketching and the conceptual work that goes into a work
Since I started using this (thanks to you) I'm no longer stuck and I feel very motivated to draw again. I wanna fill a sketchbook now
Thank you for this. Its amazing🥰
