Another thing is and this may be just me but always have music playing (some roller skate rinks allow earbuds) if you’re relaxed you’re not too focused on falling. Just feel the rhythm and vibe and it’s essentially like dancing.

I've been trying to learn rollerblading recently and this really helps! I'm proud to say that I managed to go without the wall for a while and pushed outwards instead of back so I'm thankfully on the right track

Oh that's how you use those stops. I never understood how you would use them without faceplanting so i never tried to, I would just slow myself down with railing or by catching myself on a wall

When I was learning to skate properly I would sit down and get the basic motion of moving in the skates as well as a rough feel of how the wheels move on the floor. Then I would skate back and forth on the carpet to get the idea of skating, but on a surface that is less likely to make me fall, then I took it to the rink and started skating around just fine. Keep in mind this was in under 2 hours.

That stopper scraping thing might actually come in handy. I learned to ice skate / roller blade before I could walk and I still never learned that 😅

I went to a skating rink and raced my friend and while we were making it to the end, I was in the lead and she comes out of nowhere, and then hit my skates. Makes me fall over and I had my lip bleeding. Such a great time.

As someone who just recently learned to skate and understands how confusing things can be: squat like you're about to sit down to the point that you feel like you look stupid to train your balance. Take small steps without moving your feet in any way besides up and down, dont try pushing yourself forward but rather leaning your center of gravity in the direction you want to go. Only use your stoppers if you need to stop immediately and don't mind falling (like if you're about to hit someone,) otherwise just angle a foot outward and place it gently to drag behind the foot that is rolling.

I am never gonna forget the first time and last time I rolled skated with skates like these. I was going into my freshman year of high school and they had a freshman boot camp program where a bunch of freshman hang out and learn about the school but also get to know each other before school officially started in September. We went to a roller rink like a block away from the school and omg... I was falling and crumbling to the ground every chance I got. I thought it would be like my roller blades I had at home that has 4 wheels in one line so it balances like ice skates, which I am WAY more used to. But nope. I was VERY unprepared for that outing. I embarrassed myself big time in front of me fellow peers I would he stuck with for 4 years straight and the next morning I woke up so sore I couldn't even go to the next day of the program, even opening my eyes in the morning somehow hurt. Ah. Good times.
