With respect here are a few corrections along with some advice for viewers... 95% of Colombia in not in the Southern hemisphere. Only a small portion and none of the major cities are located in the Southern hemisphere. The more rainy months are typically April/May and September/October but it can rain almost anytime in Colombia. Temperatures in Medellin are usually in the low to mid 80's F (27-30 C). Medellin's nick name is the City of Eternal Spring but it can get a bit hot and humid IMHO. Medellin elevation is 1500 meters (5,000 feet). Best weather months to visit are December/January and July/August (end of July first part of August is when the popular festival occurs in Medellin, Fiesta de Las Flores (The Festival of Flowers). Did you know that 90% of the cut flowers in the U.S.A. come from Colombia? Cartagena not Cartageña. Guatape is pronounced (wha-ta-pay). When visiting Bogota bring warm clothes... The elevation of this Capitol city is 2,640 meters (8.612 feet) which means it can get very chilly especially when added with the frequent rain it makes it feel much colder. Only use an authorized taxi. Best to have the restaurant or hotel call for your taxi and not hail one from the street. While 99% of the taxis are fine there is that 1% that can ruin your day. When called by hotel or restaurant those taxis are registered with the company and if any problems occur you can track who the driver was in the event you have problems. Note: Best place to stay/visit in Cartagena is the Old Walled City, pricey but worth it. Another VERY popular area to visit is the coastal city of Santa Marta (it's what Cartagena was like 25 years ago). From Santa Marta you can access the Tayrona National Park, another popular area to see when visiting Colombia. Cartagena has experienced crazy growth and development in the past 15 years. Plan on spending only 3 to 4 days in the city of Cartagena. Don't expect nice beaches in Cartagena, they are horrible. To find the Caribbean blue waters you will need to go one of the many Islands just off he coast of Cartagena, like Isla Rosario or Isla Las Palmas or Baru (Baru is technically not an Island but the best access is by boat). When visiting Cali to take your Salsa lessons know that it will be warm/hot and humid due to its lower elevation, 1,018 meters (3,340 feet). I've been living and doing business in Colombia for over fifteen years.

@@mabelmoreno2471 Most of the adventure you mention is in the interior. I live in Santander (far from the beach), home of San Gil which in one of the adventure capitals of Colombia. As he mentioned in the video, air travel within Colombia is inexpensive for people with USD or Euros in their pocket. You can spend a few days in Cartagena, then fly up to Bucaramanga, Santander. From here you're well positioned to take advantage of rafting, bungee jumping, paragliding, and adventures like that. Research SANTANDER. I live here and I think it's the most beautiful part of the country.

To be honest it's very difficult to get good quality traditional Colombian food. And not because Colombian cuisin is bad, but because Colombians don't exploit their culinary culture. It's not like in Mexico that you can find good Mexican food on any corner. In Colombia you should look at specific restaurants... If you go to any restaurant without doing your research you'll most likely be served a plate of white rice with boiled potatoes.

Just got back from Cartagena. It was fantastic. Just ignore and avoid any street solicitation and you will be fine. Don’t even make eye contact with these people to avoid scams. Other than that we felt safe and had a great time.

Thank you for telling people about Columbia. Many people try their very best to make it a good place.
What you should know if you visit Colombia is that if you do not visit Medellin it is as if you had not come to Colombia, Medellin is #1 in quality of life and is the living example of the social, economic and tourist transformation of the country.
I think your advice about having a tour guide is on point for first timers. I would have my tour guide with me everyday to be safe.
Great Country , Colombia 👌🏻💯
Thanks for the great update of Colombia. I’m French Canadian, and I visited Panama several times before in the 90’s. I was very lucky to have established friends of thee et family there that supported and befriended me to the max (wonderful people). I should go back and visit, however, I got kind of lazy lately, ( no fun hey).
I really like how you break down things to know about a certain country! It is so fun and informative! I would give you a million complements but I can't type that long .I started watching your videos 9 months ago and boy have you improved. You seem to be easy-going and really enjoy travel with learning about new people and cultures!
Visited Colombia almost 4 years ago. Loved the place. Respectfully, I feel Bogota is more than just a business and administration centre as you mentioned a few times in the video. Here are a bunch of fun things to do in the capital as a tourist. 1) Check out the street art. Colombia has the most beautiful murals I've ever seen in any country, hands down (shout out to Guatemala for being a close second IMO). 2) Museums. The Gold Museum (Museo del Oro) is a fantastic museum, one of the best I've ever been to. The Botero Museum and the National Museum of Colombia are also amazing. 3) Walking around La Candelaria, the old town, including Bolivar square. Great mix of shops which feel like they've been around for hundreds of years, plus lots of universities, so a great mix of young and old there. 4) The emerald zone. It's a bit niche for people who don't care much about jewelry, but if you do, Colombian emeralds (esmeraldas) are some of the finest on Earth. You can get authentic emerald jewelry from close to the source without the outrageous jewelry store markups you might find at home. 5) Find somewhere to play tejo. Tejo is an awesome Colombian game where you're trying to throw discs onto a clay board within this ring of firecrackers embedded in the clay. Granted, you could find tejo bars elsewhere in the country, but one of the walking tours in Bogota I went on ended with us drinking beer and playing tejo, and it was awesome. 6) Food touring - the capital has great markets for you to find local fruits and drinks to sample, plus the hundreds of empenada vendors. 7) Go up Monserrate. The views from the top of the mountain overlooking Bogota are breathtaking, even on cloudy, gloomy days. Plus there are vendors up there who can sell you some coca leaf tea! TL;DR: Yes, Medellin and Cartagena are fantastic, but don't skimp on Bogota just because it's the big bad city. It's super fun too. This has been my PSA hyping Bogota!

Good work. I live here and it's nice to see a well put together video like this. THANKS for mentioning the Escobar thing. Here, talking about him would be like talking to Americans about mass shootings. It's a good way to alienate Colombians and make them walk away. Also, I'm glad you mentioned family friendly. Colombians are ALL ABOUT THE FAMILY. They love kids even more than Americans. It's an excellent place to travel with your children. If you return, come visit me in Bucaramanga. I'll show you around, be your personal translator, and maybe help with your next video.

Excellent....im Colombian...thank you so much for the video. Hi from New York city
out of all the videos out there of places to visit in Colombia by far this is the most on point 💪
Island Hopper is in Colombia wearing a 'Columbia' top. Overall, this is a well-researched video. Granted the pronounciations are more American based, but I can see the effort made. It DOES RAIN A LOT. November is also a good time to come with less rain (at least to Bogota). "If you want to find bad people in Colombia, you can surely find them, as you could in New York or Los Angeles. But nowhere have my crew and I been treated better or with more kindness and generosity. I’d bring my family on vacation there in a heartbeat. And hope to soon. As I said before: Colombians are proud. Let them show you what they are proud of." ~ Anthony Bourdain

Pretty good reporting, sir...thanks for your contribution. Tourism dynamics in Colombia have been shifting over the years, and while places like Cartagena (not pronounced Cartageña, fyi), Medellin and Santa Marta have always been popular, the capital city of Bogota has a significantly higher level of tourism. With the city's sheer geographical size and population, there are more museums, historic sights and a greater variety of upscale sectors for tourists using international currencies. Bogota is referred to as the refrigerator (la nevera) by Colombians throughout the country, but its climate is actually quite enjoyable, imho. As someone who lived and worked in Bogota for seven years, I'd say visiting the capital along with other destinations is a must.

Excellent affordability and it’s a paradise terrain especially on the interior. I really enjoyed the tours!
As someone who was born there before this video starts let me tell you the truth: *Colombia is dangerous if you don’t have a guide. *You must try to “no dar papaya” which means…blend in to not look too rich or else you are a target to get kidnap or people steal from you. * Avoid driving at night after 7pm. And do not stop on red lights if you are actually driving at night. (Do a yield on red lights but never fully stop). * Pay attention to where you are driving. Sometimes stop signs are written in the floor. And some times they are faded away so pay attention to how other drivers stop. *Drive with your windows up and your doors locked. * Never go to an expensive restaurant. They are usually crap compared to the actual street food. * Know your local people. They will usually guide you to good foods. *Trust your gut. If you feel unsafe… you probably are. Just don’t make a scene and leave like a ghost! Now… let me see if this video talks about any of these…🤔

After seeing this video he did mention safety. Complete wrong but at least for a white dude he kinna touch on one thing that is true. Colombia isn’t plague with narcs any more. HOWEVER, Colombia’s biggest issue is that 70% of Colombia live under poverty which leads some people to take on kidnapping as a job, hitman jobs, and or stealing from people who are foreigners or people who look rich. Other than the safety issues… white dude is overall ok with the info.

Cam Cam you are not colombian and suggesting not to go to a good restaurant is so ridiculous . Colombians enjoy life and move around freely in that country. Turists and expats do the same. They go to the beaches, mountains, theater, so many events that take place there. There are many other videos on Colombia that shows you how much fun you can find there..
In Bogota are nice condominiums to live ..very safe love the climate
Awesome video
Great video lots of good tips for the typical tourist that has maybe a week or two in the interior or coast of Colombia. I agree tours are a good idea and safe . Having said that after living in a middle class (strata 3 ) Colombian neighbourhood in Medellin for more than a month , I do have to say I would not call Colombia a" family friendly kind place", outside of the Poblado or Laureles life is very different for foreigners here in Medellin. I speak Spanish but it makes no difference, I'm seen as a foreigner and an easy target for many. I continually have to have in my head on the swivel when I go out, yes even in the day time. Just last week a local reputable Medellin news outlet did a report on how violent crimes against foreigners are on a steep rise here in 2021 due to high unemployment and other political issues. Society here is victim of many years of corrupt governments leaving much of the population in a desperate situation, and we must be aware that when visiting here. So yes Colombia is a beautiful country and there are many good people here... But there's equally many that see foreigners as an easy target and will not hesitate to seize any opportunity, and I speak from experience. Even my good Colombian friends tell me to stay away from "El Centro " in the middle of the day when I am alone, so you can take that for what it's worth. Bottom-line, be very very careful when traveling here, especially in larger cities in Colombia.
Colombia my ancestral home country

A few days ago I discovered your channel because we are going for Thanksgiving to New Orleans, I am Colombian and that video fills me with joy, not many of the youtuber speak about that part as we Colombians would speak, thank you for really showing what my country is like And not like it was 25 years ago, we are already tired of the stigma of narcos when that title is not ours and it is not our pride, on the contrary, it is a shame! Thanks 🙂
Amazing country, amazing culture, beautiful weather and excellent food and travelling for very affordable prices👌

Thank you for explaining to the world the suffering of the Colombian people in relation to drug trafficking, in Colombia there is a cancer, which the rest of the world helps to make it difficult to end, when the people around the world continue to consume that drug for which Colombians have paid with the blood of their loved ones, destroyed families and a lot A LOT of suffering from drug mafias. We all as humanity are one, and what we do to our brother sooner or later will be returned to us. The deep and long suffering of the people of Colombia due to the diabolical business of drug history has not been enoughIt but now it must be carried with the fame in the eyes of the world that a handful of damned people with the help of ALL those who consume around the world have given to Colombians. Most Colombians are hard-working and honest people who just want to end the nightmare of drug trafficking. Eternal father protects Colombia from falling into the clutches of communism.
