    Wow, thank you so much for your thorough reviews! My personal favorite looking and feeling Azek/Timbertech board is the Azek Vintage Weathered Teak -- although I don't think you covered the Azek line in this review. I got a few samples though and it's just too soft... bang one corner against the face of another to simulate dropping something heavy on it, and it leaves quite the dent. Is that an issue with all of the PVC boards in general? I also checked out and liked the Timbertech Sandy Birch (Terrain line), but the deck I'm rehabbing will require ripping some boards. After reading through Timbertech's install instructions and talking to two different reps, there seems to be disagreement on if and how scalloped boards should be ripped. So Sandy Birch is now off the table. It'd be nice if there were an option to buy the same boards in scalloped vs non-scalloped so this would be a non-issue. The Tropical and Legacy collections seem too slippery to me - that was mentioned in your review (at least regarding one of these lines) and I agree. So I'm looking for a nice looking board that isn't too soft or too slippery -- and can be ripped. I see Deckorators has a line called Voyage that may fit the bill. I don't know anything about Deckorators, though. Any brief thoughts would be very much appreciated! Thank you again!

    Thank you for the feedback! PVC products in general are a little more prone to denting, but less prone to scratching than their composite counterparts. The Azek Vintage line is beautiful for sure. Deckorators Voyage is a fantastic line, and yes it can be ripped. It has great traction, and is VERY durable. Also some of the best looking stuff out there. We will be doing a Deckorators video soon!

    My backyard gets full sun from 1pm to 7pm...is the Edge maritime gray a good choice for heat control? Also will the Edge stand up to water damage being around an above ground pool?

  • @TheUltimateDeckShop

    @TheUltimateDeckShop

    4 жыл бұрын

    Maritime Grey will be okay for heat relative to other composites due to being a lighter colour....however, if it's in direct sun and it's 95 degrees or more, its flip flop time. I wouldn't have any concerns about the pool water, it should be fine!

    I'm struggling big time in picking a damn color. I used TimberTech Silver Maple in a ramp in the front yard, I like it. My deck guy wants me to use Azek. So I chose Island Oak. It's going to be under a roof, so I'm afraid it's going to "look dark". Do people use Island oak as their main decking, or only border? Slate Gray seems really light in comparison. I'm looking for a gray deck with variegation, but since it'll be under a roof I don't want it to look black. Any ideas?

  • @TheUltimateDeckShop

    @TheUltimateDeckShop

    Hey Reuben, thanks for the question. Island Oak is a very under-rated colour in my opinion, it's quite nice, but not super popular in our store. It is a little bit of a darker great, so if you're concerned it might be too dark, what about considering Azek Coastline? In my opinion, Azek Coastline is probably the nicest looking board in the whole collection. It's a lighter grey, but with some hairline colour variagation...undertones of tanny grey run through it. It's really a tricking board. And it pairs perfectly with Azek Dark Hickory if you're looking to compliment it. I do really like Island Oak as well, but that Vintage Collection (of which Coastline is a part of) in the Azek line is one of the nicest on the whole market!

    Can you install Timbertech over cedar deck boards?

  • @TheUltimateDeckShop

    @TheUltimateDeckShop

    4 жыл бұрын

    No, please don't do that. The TimberTech boards would be fine. The cedar boards would rot. And then you would find yourself taking it all apart and doing it all over again. Always remove the old boards, use a Joist Tape to seal the old holes in the framing, and then install the composite.

    A picture frame border is the most common way. TimberTech used to make a cap, and used to make a paint...they don't make either anymore. You could get a small jar of colour matched paint from a local paint shop if you like. It will adhere quite well. Some contractors will also miter a return on the end of the board as well. There are a few tricks to hide the exposed end, but nothing off the shelf.

  • @TheUltimateDeckShop

    @TheUltimateDeckShop

    3 жыл бұрын

    Personal preference. Both are great products at the top tier. Trex Transcend is more durable. TimberTech has more realistic colouring. Find a colour that works for your project, because they're very similar in most aspects. Now if you get into the TimberTech Azek PVC line, then they differ a little. But I would still say find a colour that works within your budget.
