The second generation Hyundai Kona Electric small SUV is a big step forward from the first. Jonathan Crouch drives it.
Ten Second Review
Contrary perhaps to appearances, Hyundai's second generation Kona Electric is a very different proposition to its predecessor. And contrary perhaps to expectations, it's also quite different to its close Hyundai Motor Group cousin, the car you might expect it to merely clone, the Kia Niro EV. In short, as far as it can, this larger, smarter, more sophisticated MK2 Kona Electric wants to set itself apart in the segment for compact EV Crossovers.
Background
Hyundai didn't invent the mainstream EV market but back in 2018, it introduced one of the two models usually credited with popularising it, the Kona Electric. That first generation version, updated in 2020, was a clone of the other key EV of the time, the similarly-sized Kia e-Niro, a fellow Hyundai Group model that shared all the same engineering. Like that full-battery Niro, the original Kona Electric was a derivative of the combustion model. This second generation Kona Electric though, is now the design core around which entire Kona range is these days based. Hybrid versions still exist: but they'll be out-sold by this full-battery variant this time round - in ever-increasing numbers.

I wonder if they fixed the 12v flat battery issue!
Somewhat surprised at the constant movement of the steering wheel in the video when driving on a straight line. Much like the in the old Hollywood movies
I love the look and received my company a few weeks ago. The only thing I don’t like is the automatic reset for the the speed warning noise on every new journey.
This is the most thourough overview I've seen so far. I've got a Kona EV 2022 Ultimate and its still a fun car to drive after owning it for the past 2 years.

I have nothing against the 2024 Kona, but I love my 2023 Ultimate.
How we can deactivate the thief alert in kona 2024? Could you please help me?
As a Kia driver, was considering the Niro, but i do like this, its a bit quirky and has a heat pump as standard. But will it be as good as the two Kia's ive owned?
Great review. New subscriber here!

Thanks for the sub!
Great car!! Too big for places like Broxbourne or Hoddesdon!!
The N line S model alright but I would have preferred N line or even Advanced also 22:13 that port will output 4000W! - that's Ioniq 5 type power.
I don't understand why car manufacturers continue to make cars that are bigger. Not everyone wants a big car.

Keep your eyes open for the incoming Renault 5. Smaller and lighter with better aerodynamics make it a better electric car.

I personally like that they have different year variants. I'm 6'2, and would probably find the smaller variant very uncomfortable. Having these that are slightly bigger, Bolt Euv as another example, helps those that are taller have a more comfortable fit.
Dealerships need to start updating their software for their test cars, or else it will get negative reports from testers, (example: wireless androidauto/car play has been available since 6th of november last year)
Is new kona capable of bidirectional charging ?

You know that iPedal thing you talked about is called One Pedal Driving. Never mind the lacklustre description as usual common to ALL reviewers about 0-60 times which unless you're planning on track days or drag racing who gives two rats about. And as usual didn't talk about the deadzone between the brake pedal and footrest, only one reviewer I've seen of all the videos I've seen on the Kona covered that. The tone also sounds like your only reviewing this under duress, much rather a BMW M3 series petrol I'm guessing.
Please bring the Kona Hybrid to the United States!
Does it make a noise to warn pedestrians or animals?a basic safety requirement i think
May look a bit different on the outside but it's the same as the first Generation its a little bigger on the outside and look a bit different on the inside but the battery's and the charge times are the same just had a little face lift and s**e loads more money over the first Generation no heat pump AC charges only at 11kw having the heating on drops the miles by about 20% much cheaper car Renault megane 60kw charges AC at 22kw half the time charging then hyundai
