Everything You Need to Know About Sauvignon Blanc

Ойын-сауық

Let’s face it, wine can be confusing. It doesn’t have to be this way. Delicious booze should be understood and appreciated by all. Patrick Cappiello, the award-winning wine director at Rebelle in New York City, completely agrees. So he is going to break down the basics of the most common wine varietals you’ll find in a store or at a restaurant.
This week, he breaks down sauvignon blanc, explaining the qualities of the grape, regions where it grows best, proper glassware, what a good one will look, smell and taste like, food pairings and other varietals to try if you find you like sauvignon blanc.

    I usually look for New Zealand white wines. I like them better than California whites. My favorite is Nobilo sauvignon blanc but I haven't seen it on local super market shelves here in the US lately 🤔 I get Cupcake instead

    This is the type of wine that opened my eyes. I got green a tomato note, and paired it with a tuna fish sandwich. A little odd but I'll always remember that night.

    I tested the claim about surface area of the wine affecting temperature. Got a big, wide glass and a small, narrow one, poured the same amount of liquid in both and took a temperature reading after 30 minutes. No difference. Conclusion: The reason you want a smaller glass for white wine is that you finish the drink quicker and can pour yourself a new one from the bottle you have hopefully kept cool while you were drinking.

    I love sauvignon blanc .Its really the only kind of wine I will drink because most types are too sweet for me You're going to get a variety of tastes depending on the brand ,where grapes grown and year . I once had a bottle that was perfect .It had a note of granny Smith apple taste to it

    Well, the explanation that they put white wine in smaller glasses because it warms slower has no basis in reality. See, there's this thing called the square-cube law, which states that given the same density, when an objects size increase; its surface area goes up by a factor of two whereas its volume goes up by a factor of three. Ergo a bigger surface area means an even bigger volume and a bigger volume of liquid means a larger thermal inertia. Since a smaller volume of liquid has a lower thermal inertia, it takes less time for it to conduct thermal energy. Which in layman's terms means that a smaller amount of wine in a smaller glass will warm up quicker than a bigger amount of wine in a larger glass. I think it's mostly an aesthetic thing. And if you want to keep your wine cooler for longer, you should use bigger glasses.

  • @AltarenGalil

    @AltarenGalil

    Correct. But yea its mostly aesthetic and also the time it stays outside the bottle. It takes longer to drink if you pour a lot of it

    Whereas New World wineries will more than often state the grape variety on the bottle, so it's clear what you're buying, Old World wineries, like the French one shown here often do not. So for those who are English only and/or not familiar with the name of the wine growing region say in France or Italy will not be certain what they buying. In this video we read "White Loire Wine" on the French wine but who is to know this is Sauvignon Blanc?

  • @Dustomatic

    @Dustomatic

    Pete Gerard because the French have laws that state you can’t put the region on the bottle unless the wine is a certain varietal or blend of varietals. Sancerre on the bottle denotes SB. Burgundy would denote Chardonnay (if white), etc.

    Aperitif? Summertime wine? Just France and California? We drink this year round and with many meals. And while we appreciate the French and US contenders, the omission of the NZ, Marlborough sauvignon blancs is a travesty, as they cannot be beaten for value, variety and sheer brilliance Not grassy, or minerally, simply a wonderful panolpy of gradations from knock you over fruit to incredible mouthfilling balance. Grapefruit is a special nuance. Please redo this video with the New Zealanders on board.

    Jomarba2 in America we pronounce the C. And yes, acid and sweetness are intertwined to an extent because acid comes from an early harvest (younger grape) and sugar comes from a riper grape.
