Everything You Need to Know About Cabernet Sauvignon

Let’s face it, wine can be confusing. It doesn’t have to be this way: delicious booze should be understood and appreciated by all. Patrick Cappiello, the award-winning wine director at Rebelle in New York City, completely agrees. So he is going to break down the basics of the most common wine varietals you’ll find in a store or at a restaurant.
This week, he breaks down cabernet sauvignon, explaining the qualities of the grape, regions where it grows best, proper glassware, food pairings, how to find a good one, and other varietals to try if you find you like cabernet sauvignon.

    Fantastic presentation.I like Cabernet Sauvignon, I buy from a store in Chicago, American wines are the best. This wine comes from California, there are favorable conditions for viticulture. Many American vineyards produce quite good spirits that can easily compete with the most awarded spirits.

    Nope. American wineries usually make over-sweet wines to cater to american public, but outside the USA the sugar content of the wines is not so high. On an international level, only top producers from usa that make european style wines are known, everything else is just sugar water

    Cabernet is one of my least favorite reds. The reason why is because it's too tight, oaky and tannic. I prefer velvety and more dense wines like syrah. Or many pinot noirs which I would describe as lush. There is also very little spice to cabernet, so it doesn't work for me in that way like a zinfandel. Just my experience.

  • @chenxilin7172

    @chenxilin7172

    Syrah could be very tight and tannic though. There are a lot reasons that you found a wine is not taste well. The age, the time dat you decant,the climate and the soil. You need to find the right way to pick them.

  • @BigBadJerryRogers

    @BigBadJerryRogers

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@chenxilin7172 I've tried a lot of Cabernet over the years. The best thing I can say about Cabernet is that with the oak comes vanilla, I do like the taste of vanilla and occasionally that comes through very strong. I think a lot of people would say that's perhaps "overdone" or bad Cabernet though, lol. I guess it's probably the general flavor profile of the grape that I don't care for as much. I don't claim to have a great palate, just average, so perhaps it's just that I can't appreciate Cabernet as much as others who are more discerning.

    I drink my Cab straight from the bottle. So I never put the wine under all that hydro-static stresses of pouring into a glass. A Cabernet goes with any food, except peanut butter and bokkoms. That's the risk with saying you're an expert and going on record, you better have actually done all your homework. KZread, where you can look up something you want to learn more about, and end up commenting and teaching the person claiming to be an expert. Don't get lazy people, you got to seek out good sources, youtube is sort of a bargain bin of knowledge, you gotta dig around in there for the good stuff.

    Meh, Australia has expiration dates on most wines so don't tell me their wines are better than ours . Australia do have some great wines but please be serious.

    I love Cab Sav but so much of what sommeliers like this guy say is BS. Ask 100 different people what smelling and tasting notes they get and you’ll get 100 different answers. Do you like it? Good enough.

    I mean you are correct in that the most important aspect in choosing wine is whether you like it or not, but otherwise you are dead wrong. During fermentation and aging natural chemical processes create scent and flavor chemicals that are the same as found in other scents and flavors referenced. For example, Madeira contains the same flavor chemicals as maple syrup so has flavors reminiscent of maple syrup. Cabernet Franc has a good amount of pyrazines, which are a flavor chemical that literally tastes like bell peppers, jalapeños, and the like. So no, sommeliers are not inherently talking BS.

    @@sparpie Well this guy was talking bs b/c he said it's low acid, and said oak simply adds tannins. So there's that.
