Everything you need to know about owning a Quaker Parrot

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Please keep in mind what I talk about may not apply to every quaker, I am just speaking statistically for the vast majority. Your Quaker can have an entirely different personality. I love quakers and im not trying to say no one should own them, my point is they are popular birds to have and popular to rehome because people are not prepared for their puberty and aggresive behaviours that take people by surprise and cause them to be rehomed.

    My first bird was a rescue Quaker and I’m so glad I was well researched when I got her. She doesn’t have any health issues or many big behavioral issues from it so I’d consider her more an adoption than a rescue, but I am her third home so maybe I’m just as stubborn as she is😆

    I just find it so hypocritical that quakers get banned when cats are a huge danger to wildlife and also invasive but no one is looking to ban them any time soon. The double standard w exotic pets!! 😤

    I inherited my moms after she passed away. Well since she was sick with cancer really bad for a year before she died he was left in his cage cause my dad was busy taking care of my mom. Well i was 23 this was before google so had no idea how to care for him so unfortunately his care was poor . When I would let him out he would charge and attack me always me lol. He loved my 3 year old daughter though he would sit with her and kiss her toes and fingers he loved her alot. It was weird but I ended up rehoming him to an experienced bird person

    I am seriously thankful for this video. We had a Quaker as a kid that was EXTREMELY aggressive but he sparked my love for birds. I’m currently debating on what species to add to our family next and this just reminded me that I really don’t want a Quaker. I LOVE them but they just don’t fit into our life right now. I have a 10 month old daughter that loves birds and will eventually be handling our birds and I don’t want a territorial/moody Quaker to scare her from wanting to be around them.

    Cockatiels I find are great family birds. Very calm, cute, love to whistle. Of course proper bonding should be in place but it would be my best recommendation :)

    I really want a quaker, but I know I can have periods where I'm not able to give my full attention to things, so I might have to see if I can meet with some birds and see how they act irl. If I'm not able to handle them I might get a conure instead as I love them as well. From what I've heard all birds want what you have tho~

    Hey! If I might ask someone (I might post this on another one of her videos). Should I get a Quaker Parrot if I am STILL IN SCHOOL? Please don't go into " Who's gonna take care of it in college? " because I would like to know if it would be a good lifestyle for my bird if I did that.

  • @mimisbirdhouse

    @mimisbirdhouse

    2 жыл бұрын

    So if you go to school its best if you had someone at home who could provide care and attention. You can also leave the tv or radio for company and when you come back make sure to spend the WHOLE day with them as theyll need the attention. As long as you have plans to stay at home for college or take them with you I see no issue. Just keep in mind birds are a lifelong commitment and not for temporary and then rehoming ☺️

    What is the most "family friendly" parrot outside of a parakeet? You've convinced me to not adopt a Quaker, which I'm a little upset about lol I've owned a green cheek conure since she was a baby and she is the sweetest thing in the entire world. I realized that maybe she is a special one a kind gal... It's been years since I've had a larger parakeet and I'm adamant on rescuing

    I wouldnt say theres exactly a family friendly parrot. Theres some that have a nicer temper and might tolerate people. If you are okay with noise level you can look into a sun conure. Personally Cockatiels are my favourite. Indian ringnecks can do very well too!
