This was also my “ideal” path in nursing school, atleast in my head it was. When I did my OR rotation, I quickly realized, no matter how much I got paid, I would not enjoy the setting CRNA’s work in, or what their day to day practice involved. I loved “managing” my cardiac surgical patients’ recovery when they came out of OR, and this helped me understand I would have most satisfaction as a critical care NP/PA, driving the overall comprehensive care of my patients. The journey to our own unique niche is the best part! There are unlimited pathways and final destinations in nursing, you can always find something that makes you thrive.

It’s interesting hearing how guarded CRNAs are about pay. I know other providers don’t discuss pay because of the reasons listed. NP for the most part have been the most transparent with me about how much they make. Have you thought about interviewing a RN Case Manager? I want that video to be extremely detailed and engaging so I just finished the script yesterday and will be filming it in the next day or so.

I’m 33. Currently in healthcare administration. My current employer is offering nursing school for free. If I do this, I’ll be interested in becoming a CRNA. Am I too old to get into the field?

Not at all. You can pursue nursing and finish as a CRNA by the time you're 42 or you could pursue nursing and remain a nurse rather than continue onto your CRNA degree if you change your mind.

@Lordcampana what healthcare group offers that? For example, a university hospital type? BTW, you are so fortunate if you get it that education for free...

I'm in Healthcare Administration now, starting my BSN in July and looking to pursue a career as CRNA or a leadership position in nursing.

On the point about being supervised erroneously… personally I won’t mind if that happens. My pursuit of CRNA doesn’t include a need to be an independent practitioner. I fully understand why lots of people like that part of it, but if it keeps the OR civil& tones down the politics, Dr. Whoever can sit there with me& chill while I care for my patient. Not my budget to balance. No big! (:
