Everything you need to know about anti-aging powerhouse Niacinamide!

As skincare has become more popularized, many people have asked Dr. Karam what Niacinamide is, what the benefits of Niacinamide are, and whether or not they should be including it in their skincare routine. Niacinamide is Vitamin B3, and as an active skincare ingredient, it works at the cellular level to make true, biochemical changes to the skin. Niacinamide helps with skin hydration, calming redness, decreasing oil production and pore size, pigmentation and so much more! Honestly, Niacinamide is a powerhouse active ingredient that Dr. Karam recommends everyone include in their skincare regimen! As always, consistent use of this active ingredient, and pairing it with sunscreen will ensure that you are getting all the benefits Niacinamide has to offer! As an added bonus, Niacinamide is included in the KaramMD Skin Trifecta, which is a 3-step skincare regimen that makes nourishing your skin and preventing skin aging easy!

My husband visits the dermatologist every 6 months, and has done so for 20 years. Almost every time he has some basal or squamous cell cancer removed. He has had MOHS surgery twice. Two years ago, his doctor recommended he start taking oral niacinimide. It has now been two years since he has had any skin cancers. Although his experience might be considered anecdotal, it is consistent with the research.

Niacinamide is probably my favorite skincare active. I’ve used it in serum form for years, first in La Roche Posay’s Pigmentclar (now d/c’d 😢) and now in their 10% Niacinamide serum. It has refined/ minimized my pores and is the only ingredient that has had a significant impact on my hyperpigmentation/sun spots. Thank you, Dr. Karam , for emphasizing consistency and long term use. I found it took me about 4-6 weeks of daily use before I could see my sun spots fading. I had one spot that even makeup wouldn’t cover and now, years later, it continues to break up into smaller parts and lighter parts so I barely notice it anymore. My overall skin clarity is so much better when I use it, I never want to be without it. Ive tried other products for hyperpigmentation like vitamin c (I do still use it) and tranexamic acid and alpha arbutin without real results. Niacinamide is my skincare hero!❤

Hi. Tretinoin is a retinoic acid, a very strong form of retinol, and in the Vitamin A family. Dr. Karam says it is an absolute must in the skincare regimen. I have used Tretinoin .5 strength at night for several years. So yep, you should be using Tretinoin every night on cleansed, DRY skin…don’t apply to damp skin or you could experience an unpleasant reaction. Hope that helps a bit.

Love your videos Dr. Karam. I will be 81 years young in few weeks. I've been using the Trifecta along with the Polish since the beginning of June, faithfully in the AM & PM I never had a problem with breakouts but I'm having some breakouts recently. Should this be happening, very frustrating. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Trifecta has fragrance. Skin irritant. Niacinamide dries the skin so I can’t use it - my skin is dry mature age 51. I would avoid fragrance and niacinamide in products for sensitive dry mature skin.

I just started niacinamide on my aging skin. For the first time in my life my oiliness and acne has been greatly reduced. I use it with 10% aleziec acid during the day with sunblock.

How should you use niacinamide in conjunction with your daily skincare routine? What are the steps? Can you use it with retinol products?

@dramirkaram I have been on Trifecta for 6 months and while it is great for most of my face, the pores on my nose are as large as ever and I can squeeze stuff out of them every day - even within days after getting a facial/extraction. What do you recommend for this isolated issue? I am about to be 53.

I just saw my GP today, she suggested a NAD IV infusion. Would this form of niacinamide work from the inside for the skin? Anti-Aging was not the reason she suggested the IV infusion but would this form have any effects on the skin? Thanks!

In previous videos you have recommended that retinol be used at night and vitamin C in the day. Can Niacinamide be used at the same time as either retinol or vitamin C, as it is recommended to be used both morning and night?

I love how Niacinamide is much milder to the skin and less prone to irritation (versus Ascorbic Acid) but what I don't like is that there can be a build up of white powdery product around the openings of the containers especially with higher percentages like 10%.
