I've had my Tesla for a couple of weeks and live in rainy Oregon. I have to say the auto-wiper setting is terrible. It often doesn't wipe even when the windshield is completely covered with rain. It's both annoying and a bit dangerous. I knew about the turn signal button control but didn't realize it brought the wiper control to the left scroll wheel. I suspect I will be using that feature extensively. My first impression of the UI for Tesla is that a lot of features are buried deep in the menus and are not really accessible while driving unless you learn these very non-obvious tips from others. Thanks for the video. I will definitely use this tip.

They definitely fixed the wipers coming on in bright sunny dry conditions but when it is raining, they haven’t figured out the appropriate intensity. I’m curious what are the other features you mentioned are buried in the menus ?

@northerntesla When going from cars with hard controls for most things, including wipers, everything Tesla (other than volume) is buried under a menu until you customize your configuration. I just picked my Model Y a couple of weeks ago. The quick overview with the sales rep was confined to "Let's set up your phone," "This is how you change gears," "Wipers are set to automatic, so you don't need to worry about that," and then "Enjoy your Model Y." On our way home, it started to rain, and we determined there was a bit more to it than that. And that Automatic wipers work great, was a bit of an overstatement.

Controls are on the stalk just like any other car. With Tesla you ALSO have the option to use voice commands or leave it on auto and not have to touch anything.

I have to say auto works only 70 percent if the time for me. But than on hard tain they hardly moves and then later with just a little rain they start tu run.. Pressing the wheel for long is new to me. Thank you for that. I also bought the s3xy knob because i read that it will have more speed steps for the wiper.

Agreed. Seems like average rain it’s pretty good. But hard rain it’s too slow and no rain u wonder why they’re on. Let me know how the sexy buttons work with wipers.

You can turn them off in AP or FSD if you get the S3XY buttons command module and app.

My new (late 2023) Model S auto wipers are worthless. What's interesting is they worked fine on my 2014 P85DL.

No different than any other vehicle.

I love my 2021 Y, but the automatic wipers don’t work well. They don’t always trigger in the rain and then often go off on a sunny day. 🤷🏼‍♂️

@@northerntesla There are two different types of insurances in Hungary. One is the "mandatory" we call it. Every vehicle in traffic must have it. It is to insure the damage you are causing to others. That is depending mainly on the performance of the car and the experience of the driver. So in case of electric cars it is usually 1.5-2 times more. But this part is the smaller amount. The bigger problem is Casco which is an insurance to cover every damage on your own car. This can be 2-4 times more than on an ICE car, because there is a theory among insurance companies that repairing an EV is more expensive. At this moment I have a two years old VW Touran. I pay 65000 HUF/year with a Tesla model 3 it would be 320000 HUF/year. And I have to admit that I am not a young guy and the insurance is quiet cheap for me.

They need to recall this and add an arm to the steering column. This isn’t a good design at all

Just so you know they are removing stalks from the steering column, not adding. Voice commands work much better than a physical stalk

Stupid design, in fact it's moronic! Every other vehicle you have 💯 control of wipers without looking at the controls WHILE DRIVING!!!!

Solution: use voice commands

I like to control wiper the old way!!! Many years ago I was driving on 5N on the cliff and the semi on the other side splashed the muddy water on my windshield I lost my view for couple seconds. If I were driving Tesla I probably be dead already!!!

You would just hit the button on the left stalk for an immediate wipe, just like the “old way”
