I’ll share what are the essential appliances required if you are a working couple and are setting up your new home. Assuming you are the order in generation with occasional cooking or are just learning how to cook - a 2-3 burner stove is sufficient for your usecase. I would recommend the Elica Vetro Glass Top 3 model in this case - for both scenarios. Next you need a water filter. No compromises here as water quality affects overall health. If you live in an area with hard water, I recommend the Kent Supreme Lite and if you live in an area with soft water of TDS less than 200PPM - Eureka Forbes Aquaflo DX. So I recommend Samsung 192 L 2 Star Direct Cool Single Door Refrigerator (RR19A241BGS/NL) for the budget usecase. Remember that this is a 2 star refrigerator and electricity consumption would be higher than a 4 or 5 star refrigerator. For a higher budget - I would recommend the two door 253+ Liter samsung model. For the budget version, you can just go for a mixer grinder - which is sufficient if you are cooking in small quantities and don’t mind mixing dough and cutting veggies manually - since the quantity cooked is small. You can go with a basic Philips mixer grinder. But if you want to plan for longevity and want to plan for a growing family or assuming you have a lifestyle where you have more smoothies and juices as well - I recommend you to go with a mixer grinder cum food processor. The other thing I would recommend young couples is a Microwave. It is common for refrigerating and eating food the next day - then a microwave alone is a good option. I would recommend this option of microwave + convection + air fryer + curd maker etc - You can bake both sweet and savory as well in this. let’s look at the cleaning appliances. Since we are assuming you are just starting out and are a working couple - a small table top dishwasher should suffice. A voltas beko table top dishwasher is available at about 20k. For a slightly higher budget of 30K - I recommend you to go for aleast a 12 place setting dishwasher- so you don’t have to run the dishwasher as often. I recommend the Faber dishwasher. The robot vacuum cleaner is a boon for handsfree cleaning. For a robot vacuum cleaner, the best option I recommend is the MI robot vacuum mop and a budget option could be the Milagrow Seagull Joy. I recommend a top load washing machine which is quite convenient and at a low budget when starting a new home. The Panasonic Top load washing machine is ideal. If air drying clothes is a chore like it is for me, I recommend the one I purchased - so I don’t have to spend any time on drying my clothes. Now coming to TV - if you are staying in a rented house - I’m guessing you may want to go with a smaller sized TV rather than a massive one. I would recommend a TV upto the size of about 40 inches.

    nice video and a good starting point for beginners. I would like to say that if one is staying in a place like Mumbai, a frost free two door fridge would be better compared to single door (unless you are not into baking) as many times spices (especially black pepper) and certain flours go bad very quickly. So to prevent that one has to store either in the fridge or the door part of the freezer. This also includes nuts as well. This helps prevent some food wastage.

  • @TheGrapevineIndia

    @TheGrapevineIndia

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Sreelakshmi! Absolutely, the single door is enough only if really constrained on budget - else at a minimum a two door becomes essential- esp after a few years.

    @@TheGrapevineIndia True. When my daughter and I moved to a rented flat for her work, we got a single door fridge of 192 ltr. Later on i realised that since we are interested in baking and the need for storing spices and flours in fridge, a bigger fridge was needed. Two years ago we purchased a godrej eon 290 ltr double door frost free and exactly after one year, the fridge malfunctioned starting with a continuous beeping, making abnormal noise and then completely switching off for two days. After that it turned itself on and since then there have been icicles in the freezer but not that much to create a havoc of frost. The service people came and did some repairs but still the problem persists. It goes to -15 C (optimum and recommended for any freezer is -18C and for fridge it is 4C) and the fridge is ok. That is when i went for a standalone vertical freezer by LG (only affordable one in the market and that too online. If you are lucky you can get it type). So as of now i am using my fridge freezer to store things that need to be thawed or where i don't need to use a knife to remove ice and saarina pudi, huli pudi and vangibaath pudi. The rest are kept in the standalone freezer which is a manual one and has to be defrosted every month.

    Hi Sreelakshmi! Eeks you seem to have had lot of trouble with your fridge 😢 the only time I find a need for a bigger fridge is when I have guests over and yes, also when I bake, but that seems to have taken a backseat these days.

  • @SreelakshmiPrabhakar

    @@TheGrapevineIndia you can say that.After the lockdown started baking has taken a backseat for me too. At the present I am interested in making indian cuisine dishes that is soo comforting.So the fridge is fulfilling my needs (though I am tempted to exchange the fridge for a new one. But that's another story and requires saving). I found the stand alone freezer very useful in helping prevent food waste as well as food prep (lasting for one month).I even store whatever lentils I get for at least three days. It kills whatever bugs and their eggs in them.i don't make freezer meals.just only pastes and certain frozen vegetables. Otherwise I get fresh veggies weekly according to whatever is in the meal plan for the week. My mother had a 300ltr frost free fridge. After 10 years it started giving problems and the service guy would do some repair and after 1 month again the same problem. Being a senior citizen and very frugal with less needs including food, she downscaled to a single door fridge. So far no issues for her. Touchwood

    Hi Sreelakshmi! I should learn from you how to use the freezer optimally. I remember you had mentioned about blanching and storing veggies too in the past. My freezer is currently small and underutilized, but once I switch my fridge, want to make sure I use it optimally for storing for long term.

  • @bryandsouza9182

    In 2021, we mostly get 3 star refrigerators only in the budget section. The thing about ratings is that the testing standards keep getting stricter year on year. So 2021's 3 star fridge (250 units per year) would be much more energy efficient than a 2010's 5 star fridge (400 units per year). The key is to look at units consumed per year, which is mentioned under the star ratings.

    @@bryandsouza9182 This is the biggest drawback of Indian society. Indian want cheap product as compare to good quality products and that's the main reason that Chinese market influence increasing day by day. You have to pay approx 1000 RS more to buy 5 star rather than 3 star and you can cover it in a one or two years by saving more electricity. And Rest years is your savings. So always selecting budget product is not a good option.

    Hi @Writers Inc - that's the issue with RO. Unfortunately even the new ones where they say they save water expects that water to be sent back to the overhead tank (for use for flushing and stuff) - which means that it requires the entire plumbing to be changed.

    Dishwasher doubt... Almost all brands, 12/13/14/15 place dishwashers have almost same dimensions, 60*60*85cms. With a very slight difference. Seems more like the width of the plate racks is adjusted or something. Isn't it just ridiculous that the overall space etc remains same and just minor change in rack dimensions and the price difference is humongous... The 15 place dishwashers have a cutlery rack on top but the total height remains same, so it seems more like the top rack space is reduced.

  • @TheGrapevineIndia

    Hi Anil! That's absolutely true and a question I wondered about too. From what I've seen, the inside racks in the 12 place setting (Bosch) are smaller compared to the 14 place setting (Faber) that I use. I have not measured it, maybe I will next time I visit relatives. While they don't call out the dimensions explicitly - I think this is one of the differentiator. And yes, the top tray too is useful - that itself saves the space in the cutlery rack which you may have had to store in the bottom or middle shelf
